Toys“R”Us is one of many bricks-and-mortar chains feeling the pain from the rapid growth in online shopping. The American retail giant is struggling to pay off its ballooning debts and is now considering a range of measures, including bankruptcy protection.
Toys“R”Us has reportedly hired a law firm to help restructure roughly 400 million dollars of debt. The options on the table range from refinancing to a bankruptcy filing. The retailer told NHK that it hasn't yet decided how it will address its debt load, which is due next year.
Toys“R”Us has more than 800 outlets in the U.S. alone, but its sales have been falling as more people go online to do their shopping. The retailer closed its flagship store in New York's Times Square at the end of 2015.
