南アフリカのシュタインホフ社、会計不正疑惑の調査をPwCに依頼（economiaより）

PwC investigates accounting irregularities at Steinhoff

シュタインホフ・インターナショナルという会社（南アフリカの会社ですが、世界各国で家具・雑貨などの小売チェーンを保有しているようです）が、PwCに会計不正を調査するよう依頼したという記事。

The company announced that new information had emerged which required investigation into accounting irregularities, and said it was unable to publish its financial results as a result.

CEOの退職も公表しており、かなり重要な不正のようです。

In the same statement, the South-African retailer also announced that its chief executive Markus Jooste would be leaving the company with immediate effect.

監査人はデロイトですが、守秘義務があることや、調査中であることを理由に、ノーコメントです。

Deloitte is Steinhoff’s current auditor. Deloitte declined to comment due to client confidentially obligations and the ongoing investigations.

Poundland owner Steinhoff International has seen its shares fall by almost two thirds after it said it would launch a probe into accounting irregularities.

It came as chief executive Markus Jooste resigned and the South African group postponed its full-year results.

Steinhoff has asked accountancy giant PwC to conduct an independent investigation.

どういう会社かというと、南アフリカとドイツで上場しているそうです。

Shares in the company, listed in South Africa and Germany, ended the day 63% lower.

世界30カ国で４０のローカル・ブランドを保有しており、家具や家庭用品のほか、医療や履き物なども扱っています。欧州とアフリカが中心です。

Steinhoff owns 40 local brands in more than 30 countries. As well as furniture and homeware, it also sells products including clothing, footwear and consumer goods.

Its brands include Bensons for Beds and Harveys in the UK, Conforama in Europe, Pep and Ackermans in South Africa and Snooze in Australia. Steinhoff derives about 60% of its earnings in Europe and 34% in Africa.

日本では、会計不正疑惑が起こると、弁護士を中心とした第三者委員会で調べる（監査法人系のコンサル会社が支援する）というのが、一般的になっていますが、会計の問題であれば、監査法人や監査法人系列のコンサル会社が、直接契約し調べて、報告書を出すのもいいのではないでしょうか。ブランドの評判を維持しなければならないので、会社の意向を忖度するということもないでしょう。
