米会計士協会会長に初のアフリカ系女性（JofAより）

Paying it forward

米国公認会計士協会の新会長、Kimberly Ellison-Taylor氏を紹介した記事。アフリカ系米国人が会長に就任するのは始めて（女性としては5人目）だそうです。

同氏は、現在、オラクル社のglobal accounting strategy directorをつとめています。テクノロジー関連を中心にキャリアを積んできたそうです。

Ellison-Taylor, global accounting strategy director for Oracle America, rose through the ranks of the profession with an intense focus on the technology that is transforming the business world.

オラクルの前には、NASA、モトローラ社、KPMG、メリーランド州Prince George's Countyなどでの勤務経験もあります。

学歴は、コミュニティカレッジで会計を学んだあと、メリーランド大学に進学、MBA（Loyola University Maryland）や理学修士（カーネギーメロン大学）も取っているそうです。

同氏はボルティモア市のブルーカラー層が多い地区の出身で、父親はベスレヘム・スチールの製造ラインで働いていたそうです。米国は格差社会になってきているといわれますが、学歴と職歴を重ねて、上に上がっていくルートはあるのでしょう。

写真を見ると元気のいい中年女性という感じです。1970年生まれなので、日本の会計士協会会長よりは10歳以上年下ということになります。

小学校3年生のときに、学校のキャリアデイという催しで会計士が訪問し、会計士はお金の管理を任されるしごとだというのをきいて、会計士になろうと決めたのだそうです。

When she was in third grade, a CPA came to a career day at her elementary school and explained that CPAs are responsible for managing money. At that point, she decided on her future profession. She was going to be a CPA.

"In my mind, if you managed the money, you were the boss," she said.

AICAPA会長として、人材に焦点を当てて、業界をリードしたいのだそうです。会計プロフェッショナルに対する需要は高く、今後も上昇が見込まれます。より多くの人材が会計プロフェッションに加わり、仕事を続けていけるようにすることが重要だと述べています。

As chairman of the AICPA board, Ellison-Taylor wants to lead the profession by emphasizing a focus on the people who are critical to ensuring that CPAs and CGMA designation holders maintain their high profile in the business environment. The demand for accounting professionals is high and is projected to rise, and Ellison-Taylor said it's important to make sure that more people are entering and remaining in the profession than exiting the profession. With members of the Baby Boomer generation at retirement age, that's a challenge that requires careful management of people.
