7月21日

神前結婚記念日

1900年のこの日、東京の神宮奉斎会本院(現在の東京大神宮)が神前結婚式のPRを始めた。

それまでは結婚式は家庭で行うのが普通だった。この年の5月10日に「皇室御婚令」が発布され、皇太子(後の大正天皇)の御婚儀が初めて宮中賢所大前で行われた。このことにより、国民の間に神前での結婚式をしたいという気運が高まった。

それを受けて日比谷大神宮は、神前結婚式を世に広める為に、新聞記者や大臣等を招いて模擬結婚式を行うなどPR活動を行った。現在の神前結婚式の原型は日比谷大神宮の宮司が、宮中婚礼を参考にして作ったものであると言われている。

破防法公布記念日，公安調査庁設置記念日

1952年のこの日、「破壊活動防止法(破防法)」が公布・施行され、同時に公安調査庁が設置された。

自然公園の日

1957年のこの日、「自然公園法」が制定された。

日本三景の日

日本三景観光連絡協議会が制定。

『日本国事跡考』で松島・天橋立・宮島が日本三景として絶賛した林鵞峰の1618(元和4)年の誕生日。

独立記念日 [ベルギー]

1931年のこの日、前年にオランダからの独立を宣言したベルギーで、初代国王レオポルド1世が即位した。

解放記念日 [グアム]

1944年のこの日、日本占領下のグアム島にアメリカ軍が上陸し、グアムの戦いが始まった。両軍で約2万人の死者を出して8月11日に米軍が全島を占領した。
