Horse Racing School of Japan Racing Association

市の主催の馬事文化市民講座の一環で、千葉県白井市にあるJRAの競馬学校の見学をしてきました。

I went to see the Horse Racing School in Shiroi City in Chiba as I participated in a horse-related-culture seminar held by a local government.

普段は公開されていない場所なので、見ることができてラッキーでした。 

Usually the school premises are not open in public, so I was quite lucky to see the place.

Trainers watch students riding horses in this white building.  We went up to the rooftop.

 

 

 海外から来た競走馬は検疫が必要ですが、毎日の調教も必要で、写真奥にある白い馬小屋に一時保管され、こちらのコースで、もともといる馬たちとは別の時間に調教もされるそうです。この日は、11月26日に開催のジャパンカップに出走する馬、数頭を、預かっているということでした。

 Racehorses from overseas should be put in quarantine, but they need training everyday. Some racehorses from overseas, which are to run for Japan Cup on November 26, were in the white stables (you can see on the picture) on that day.

乗馬姿勢を見てください。馬が走りやすいように、騎手は、両足だけで、姿勢を保たなければいけないとのことです。手綱は、支えのために使われるものではないのです。

確かに、プロ騎手のレースの時の姿勢は、よく考えればすごいことです

Look at the posture of the students! Jockeys have to keep this posture only with their legs so that horses can run easily. They mustn't use the reins for support. 

If you pay attention to the professional jockeys' posture in races, you can imagine how hard it is to keep that posture!

職員の方が、競馬学校の生活のことなど、丁寧に説明してくれました。

Workers of the school politely explained the racing school life.

 生徒達は、中学卒業後の15歳から20歳の間に入学します。体重を47.5㎏以下に維持しなければならないということで育ち盛りの子供達にとって厳しいです。

しかし、彼ら（女性もいますが）は、とてもかっこよくて、礼儀正しく、まさに本当のアスリートと言う感じでした。彼らを応援したくなりました。

Students can enter the school at the age from 15 (after graduating junior high schools) to 20. They have to keep their weight under 47.5 kilograms.
It's so hard for the children at that age!  But they, including female students, were so cool and well-mannered and seemed to be real athletes. I'd like to support them!

 

馬の世話もしています。馬はしっかり次に何をすべきかわかっていて、自ら足を上げています

They take care of horses. This horse was so smart that it raised its legs by itself. So cute!

 

競馬学校には、2種類の馬がいて、競技用のサラブレッドは、引退した競走馬を無償で譲り受けているとのことです。

初めに生徒が乗る、乗馬用の馬は、海外から輸入しているということで、ちょっとびっくりしました。

サラブレッドは走るための馬なので、性格的にも、一般の乗馬には向かないとのことです。

The racing school keeps two kinds of horses.  One is thoroughbred horses which used to be racing horses and were handed over free of charge.

The other is horses for riding, which were imported from overseas and used for new students to learn how to ride.

中山競馬場

Nakayama Racecourse

中山競馬場への招待状が当たり、JR武蔵野線の船橋法典駅から中山競馬場へ向かいました。

I got an invitation card to Nakayama Racecourse and went there from Fnabashi-hoten Station of JR Musashino Line.

競馬場へは専用通路があります。

There is a special walkway from the station to racecourse.

8:45am、開門15分前、G1レースはありませんが、入り口前には、大勢の人が…

There weren't G1 races but there lined up so many pepole in front of the entrance gate 15 minutes before the opening time.

当日は、大変なんだろうな～。歌手の北島三郎さんの愛馬、キタサンブラックはラストランになるとのことですね～。

Arima Kinen can be the most popular G1 race and Nakayama Racecourse is filled with fans every year.

It is said to be the final race for Kitasan Black, whose owner is a famous Japanese singer, Saburo Kitajima.

パドックにて。サラブレッドの2歳馬。とても奇麗でかわいくて、ずっと見ていたくなります。

 Two-year-old thoroughbreds are in the paddock.  They are so cute.

スタンドの3階から上は、指定席券が必要です。これは、4階の招待席から。

To go upstairs (upper than second floor of the stands) you need to buy reserved tickets.

The views are from the fourth floor.

屋外からも…芝ではなく、ダート（泥）上のレースだったので、ちょっと遠かったかな。でも、カッコよかったです。

This race was held on the dirt, not on the lawn.  A little bit far...but so cool!

 

競馬場の中ほどには、子供達が遊べる広場もあります。

There is a small park for children to play in.

 

時間も知識もなく、今回は馬券を買えませんでしたが、大好きだったディープインパクトのぬいぐるみを買ってしまいました。

1,000円です。競馬学校の生徒さんの頑張りを見て、馬券を買おうと思っていたのに…
