BBC ICJ to rule on DR Congo-Uganda reparations case 9 Feb 2022

「The International Court of Justice (ICJ) at The Hague is expected to hand down a verdict in the long-running case between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.

Both countries are demanding reparations from each other in relation to conflicts in the DR Congo's mineral-rich Ituri province from 1998 to 2003.

The court in 2005 ruled that Uganda must pay compensation to DR Congo for its occupation and looting in Ituri.」

「It also found DR Congo culpable for an attack on Uganda's embassy in the capital, Kinshasa, and ordered it to pay compensation.」

BBC West Bank: Three Palestinian militants killed in Israeli operation 9 Feb 2022

「Three Palestinian men accused by Israel of carrying out a spate of attacks have been shot dead in an Israeli operation in the occupied West Bank.

The military wing of the Palestinian Fatah faction confirmed that the dead men were its members and said they were killed in "a cowardly assassination".」

BBC Brazil rains: Sao Paulo floods kill 21 and destroy homes 1 Feb 2022

「At least 21 people have died in floods and landslides caused by torrential rains in the Brazilian state of Sao Paulo, officials say.」

「Meteorologists say the excessive rain is a result of a summer phenomenon - the South Atlantic Convergence Zone (SACZ) - that causes heavy rainfall.

The bad weather is also a result of La Nina, a climate pattern in the Pacific Ocean that can affect weather worldwide.

Experts also say climate change is contributing to extreme weather events around the world.」
