Filtration is fundamental to aquarium environment. There're 3 basic types of filtration: mechanical, chemical and biological, only when they're all available can a truly healthy and balanced environment be maintained for the fish.
Aquarium filtration media generally use the following:
1, physical filtration categories: acrylic cotton, sheep blankets, filter bags
2, biological filter categories: ceramic filter media, glass ring, biochemical cotton, biochemical ball, coral bone and so on
3, special filter categories: zeolite, activated carbon, water soft resin
What type of media do I need? It was one of my hardest decisions to make. Which type of aquarium filter media acts much better? Should I be using bio balls for my quascape? Or maybe even some sorts of higher grade ceramic filter media? There were so many questions that I didn't know how to start.
