Tohkamachi

I went on a day trip to Tohkamachi area last Monday.

At first Noh-butai in Matsudai. That is a kind of art museum with a nice restaurant. We were supposed to eat soba in another restaurant, so we didn't have lunch there. I liked a souvenir shop in the building, but others facilities..... I didn't. I guess it is not so old, but it seemed not to be taken care of. SAD!!



Race field shaped stairways called "tanada" in Hoshi-tohge.
There were a lot of people taking photos.
Yes, it was a nice spot to take photos!



Soba restaurant called "Small Sky" in Yasuduka.
The interior was nice, soba was yummy, a little hard type.



I went to see some "Kominka",which is remodeled old house, designed by Karl Benks from Germany. Do you like them?


"Kiyotsu Canyon" is one of most famous sightseeing spot in Niigata pref. It cost 600 yen for the admission fee. You have to walk more than 30 mins in the tunnel. I think it was so-so. Maybe it will be great in autumn.



"Bijin-hayashi woods" was so nice to visit. Tranquil, neat and beautiful woods. I love it!

Light Up Wisteria in Northern Culture Museum

Now!! Wisteria Season!

Northern Culture Museum in Niigata has a beautiful wisteria garden.
Every year that museum offers free admission
and light up event of wisteria in the evening.

There are so many people enjoying flowers and food in the restaurant nearby.
Today wisterias were in full bloom.

Media Ship is the hottest place in Niigata this spring.

This is the headquarter of Niigata Nippo,
which is the biggest newspaper company.

Admission Fee is FREE! Including the observation room on the 20th floor!

I went to the restaurant called "Nihonkai" on the 19th floor.
It was gorgeous!!

We ordered prix-fixe menu, price was 3500yen per person not including drink.
Our seat was corner of the building, so night view was really wonderful!

You need to make a reservation for the restaurants on the 19th floor.

100yen shop

Are you looking for any 100yen shops in Niigata?

Usually 100yen shops are located in the suburbs especially in Niigata,

so you need to get on a bus,

BUT!! one of them is near Niigata Station!!

Go out of Niigata Station from“South Central Exit (Minami Chuo guchi in Japanese)",

you can see a few old buildings in front of you.

One of them has a plate ”PLAKA 3”on the building.

100yen shop is on the first basement floor.

You can’t miss it!

Furusato Mura

Furusato Mura is a wonderful place to know about Niigata.
Especially if you'd like to buy something from Niigata, it is the best place to go.
They have various foods, Japanese sake, snacks made in Niigata.

In this time of the year, it is covered with flowers. Spring is the best season to go.

Admission is totally free!

You can go there by bus from Niigata station about 35mins. Also you can use the boat, takes 50mins from Niigata downtown. Isn’t it nice?

Yahiko Onsen

Yahiko is a holly place in Niigata.

You can hike in the mountain, which has 7 courses, pray in the shrine, soak in the hot-springs.

Access is easy! You can visit Yahiko by JR train! Station name is Yahiko.

I will recommend the hotel called “Minoya”. It has English website.

Tsukioka Onsen

Its quality of water is perfect!
Your skin will be softer and smoother.
The color of water is green.
Smells onsen! (Do you know? It smells like rotten egg! That means good quality and genuine onsen water)

Tsukioka onsen is located in countryside in Niigata.
It takes 15mins by shuttle bus from JR Toyosaka station.

When you’d like to get in the hot-springs, usually you are requested to stay the hotel one night. It costs a lot!
But some of hotels in Tsukioka have day trip courses. It includes lunch, hot-springs, towels, and individual room to rest. Or just hot-springs and towels. It depends on the hotel.
