Steyn Says Goodbye to T20 Cricket

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 may have been over for almost a month now but international cricket events this year still keep fans on their toes. The Ashes 2019 series and India’s West Indies Tour both started in the first week of August. In a short amount of time, fans get to watch their favorite cricket teams play again after the recent Cricket World Cup. However, August also marks the retirement of some cricket players.

South Africa’s Dale Steyn announced his retirement from Test cricket. Cricbuzz released the news last August 5. Steyn’s cricket career continues as he will still play ODI and T20I matches in the future. The 36-year-old cricket player stated that Test cricket is the ‘best version of the game’.

“I will be focusing on ODIs and T20s for the rest of my career to maximise my full potential and ensure my longevity in this sport. I’d like to thank everyone in cricket, no one specific because everyone has been a part of my journey. And I look forward to continuing to play for the Proteas in the shorter formats,” Steyn stated.

Steyn did not play for South Africa in the recent ICC Cricket World Cup. He was part of the team’s initial lineup but had to be excluded because of his injury. The bowler was replaced by Beuran Hendricks in the recent World Cup.

Steyn was one of South Africa’s best cricket players. He will not play Test cricket again but we will still see him play other cricket formats in the future. South Africa’s cricket team will tour India on September 2019. The teams will play three T20Is and three Tests on the duration of the tour. Both teams have not released their squad lineups yet. Hopefully, Steyn plays in the T20I matches of the tour.

The Ashes 2019 series and India Tour of West Indies are ongoing cricket events this August. You can check out the cricket match scores of these events, as well as the latest match odds online.
