1980(昭和55)年11月14日(金)録音とされているようで、これが生前最後かどうかは別としても最終盤のデモであることは間違いありません。この日の録音は、 ①Dear John ②You Saved My Soul ③Pop Is The Name Of The Game ④ Serve Yourself の4曲で、①④は98年のJohn Lennon Anthologyでリリースされました。③は8秒しかなくタイトルを3回繰り返しているだけなので曲というには短すぎ、すぐ④に移行しています。④は多くのデモが残されている曲です(10テイクほど)♪You Saved My Soul♪は自殺に関連した内容で、聖書にも関わる歌詞のようです。宗教関係者が目をつけて「最後の曲」に祭り上げている感もあります。歌詞そのものはそれほどネガティブなものではありませんが この曲が公式公開されないのはセンシティブなテーマの為かもしれません。ブートでは広く出回っており、Youtubeには10年以上前からいくつか上がっています。

トニー･シェリダン (Tony Sheridan) とビートルズ (The Beatles) は、前日･前々日とハンブルグのフリードリッヒ･エーベルト･ハレ (Friedrich Ebert Halle) で数曲のレコーディングを行ったが、この3回目のセッションは、ハンブルグ・トンドルフ (Tonndorf, Hamburg) のラーラウ (Rahlau) 128番にあるスタジオ･ラールシュテッド (Studio Rahlstedt) というプロ用のスタジオで行われた。フリードリッヒ･エーベルト･ハレのセッションでは、「マイ･ボニー (My Bonnie)」「ザ･セインツ (The saints)」「ホワイ (Why)」「クライ･フォー･ア･シャドー (Cry For A Shadow)」の4曲が生まれていたが、3日目のこの日は新たに「エイント･シー･スィート (Ain't She Sweet)」「Nobody's Child」「Take Out Some Insurance On Me, Baby」の3曲が録音された。「エイント･シー･スィート (Ain't She Sweet)」ではジョンがリード･ヴォーカルを取っていて、これは後1995年に『アンソロジー1』に収録された。他の2曲はトニー･シェリダンが歌っている。このレコーディング･セッションは、オーケストラリーダーのベルト･ケンプフェルトが (Bert Kaempfert) プロデュースしたものである。 ビートルズは後の

"Four pages from a pocket notebook (removed), 1963: the first signed and dedicated in blue ink To Yvonne, Love Paul McCartney xxx; the second signed and annotated in red ballpoint pen Love John Lennon; the third signed and dedicated To Yvonne Love from Ringo Starr; and the fourth signed by George Harrison; accompanied by a letter from the vendor explaining how she obtained the signatures, all -- 2?x4in. According to the vendor she was picking up her coat from the cloakroom after the Beatles concert at the Ritz, Birmingham on Friday 15th February 1963, when she met Paul McCartney coming out of the toilets. After giving her his autograph she followed him into the bar, where he called her over to meet the rest of the band, who subsequently gave her their autographs too. She then took up Paul's kind offer of giving her a lift back into town in their van, where she sat on his lap and shared a kiss. Paul gave her his address and asked her to write, before dropping her and a friend off at a bus stop."

A fourth『Side By Side』appearance was pencilled in for taping from 2.00 to 6.00 pm; this was cancelled ahead of time so that The Beatles could travel to Stowe for a concert. Following the session, Karl Denver Trio guitarist Kevin Neill filmed The Beatles and Neil Aspinall on Regent Street preparing to leave; the silent footage was used in Apple's 1995 promo for the "Baby It's You" single.
Dezo Hoffmann and his assistant David Magnus were also present to shoot some photos outside the Paris Studio, including a couple later used on Apple's Live At The BBC album cover, although not without major alterations.
After the ＢＢＣ session, The Beatles stopped by Cecil Gee's menswear establishment at 39 Shaftesbury Avenue, where Dezo Hoffmann photographed them perusing the wares.

1～5は1961年6月22、23日にハンブルクの幼稚園の講堂で、
1.♪My Bonnie♪ トラディッショナル・ソングをトニー・シェリダンがロック・バージョンにアレンジしたもので、旧西ドイツではシングル・カットされてヒットを記録している。しかし、ジェリー・リー・ルイスもこの曲の「ロック・バージョン」をレコーディングしているので、シェリダンは彼のバージョンを手本にしたのでは、という説もある。ビートルズ・ファンとしてはジョンとポールのコーラス、ポールのベースとシャウトにどうしても耳がいく。 リード・ギターに関しては「ジョージにしては上手すぎる」とされ、ポール説も一時期有力視されたが、実は弾いているのはシェリダン自身。私もずっと「本当にジョージ？」と疑っていた。なお、多く出回っているテイクはイントロのボーカルは英語だが、この部分のみドイツ語の別バージョンも一部に出回っている。 さらに、シェリダンのボーカルをOFF気味にリミックスしたテイクも多いようだ。なお、現在ではANTHOLOGY 1でも聴くことができる。実はビートルズはこのレコーディング後、この曲をレパートリーに加えていたそうだが、その際はジョンがボーカルをとっていたとか。そのバージョンも残っているならぜひ聴いてみたい。
2.♪The Saints[When The Saints Go Marching In](聖者の行進)♪ これもシェリダンがトラディッショナル・ソングをロック・バージョンにアレンジしたもの。シングルMy BonnieのB面として発表されている。
3.♪Why♪ トニー・シェリダンのオリジナルで、黒人コーラス・ナンバー風のバラード。これもむしろビートルズによるバック・コーラスの方が印象的。
4.♪Cry For A Shadow♪ ジョージとジョンの共作によるインストで、ここではシェリダン抜きの演奏。曲自体はシャドウズのパロディ。ジョージのリード・ギターはこの時期のジョージにしてはなかなか頑張っていて好感が持てる。しかし、それ以上に、すでに自分のスタイルを築いているジョンのリズム・ギターが印象に残る。 ベースとシャウトで盛り上げるポールのサポートも光る。なお、この曲は現在ANTHOLOGY 1にも収録されている。
5.♪Nodody's Child♪ カントリーのスタンダードのカバー。お恥ずかしい話だが、私はこのテイク、未聴です。
‡6,7 は1961年6月24日にスタジオでレコーディングされている。バック・バンドとしての演奏ながら、ジョージとジョンの共作によるインストの4.Cry For A Shadow、ジョンの歌う6.Ain't She Sweetという、シェリダン抜きのテイクまでレコーディングされている
6.♪Ain't She Sweet(いい娘じゃないか)♪ もともとは古いスタンダード・ナンバーだが、ビートルズはジーン・ヴィンセントを通じてこの曲を知り、レパートリーに加えていた。しかし、ここではヴィンセントによるメロウなアレンジとは全く雰囲気を変え、アップ・テンポなR&Rとして演奏、つまりアレンジはビートルズ自身と考えてもよい。 しかも、単なる「バック・バンド」としてのレコーディングであるにもかかわらず、ジョンがボーカルを担当している。本当に、貫禄すら漂う歌いっぷりである。なお、このテイクは現在ANTHOLOGY 1でも聴くことができる。
