RONNIE BROWN NAMED AFC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

MIAMI – Miami Dolphins running back Ronnie Brown was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week for games of September 21-22, it was announced today by the National Football League.

In the Dolphins’ 38-13 victory over the Patriots at Gillette Stadium last Sunday, Brown rushed for 113 yards on 17 carries and scored four touchdowns, including one of 62 yards, the second-longest run of his career. It was his third career run of 60 yards or longer, becoming the first Dolphin to achieve that feat. He also threw a 19-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Fasano, as Brown became just the second player in NFL history to score four touchdowns and throw for another in the same game. The first to do it was Paddy Driscoll, who accomplished it on October 7, 1923 as a member of the Chicago Cardinals against the Rochester Jeffersons.

“It was a tremendous day for Ronnie,” said Dolphins Head Coach Tony Sparano following the victory. “I’m just proud of both of those guys back there (Ricky Williams). We’ve talked about this for two weeks now -- 'we’re not doing this, we’re not doing that.' And those guys made some plays. You see the big plays, the finished runs, finishing at the end of the game. That’s my kind of ball. I like finishing at the end of the game and those kinds of things. So I was really proud to see the way they ran the ball, but I mean Ronnie, he had a little something to him and I thought that was nice to see.”

For Brown, this is the first such honor of his four-year NFL career. In addition, he is the first Dolphins running back to earn the award since week 14 of the 2002 season when Ricky Williams came away with the accolade for his performance against the Chicago Bears on December 9 of that year, when he rushed for 216 yards and two touchdowns.
