Scoop: China -"Russian Defeatism" (1)
A surprising article appeared in the Japanese magazine "Gendai Business" on May 17.
https://gendai.ismedia.jp/
I would like tentatively to introduce the contents of this article.
Its title is:
Shocking "Russian Defeatism".
What did the former Chinese Ambassador to Ukraine say?
Russia's eventual defeat is only a matter of time.
The "Phantom Lecture" Erased by the Xi Jinping Regime.
It will soon be three months since Russia started its invasion of Ukraine, but there is a diplomat in China who has as much courage as a Ukrainian soldier.
It is Gao Yusheng, 74, former Chinese Ambassador to Ukraine.
Gao was born in Hebei Province, which surrounds the capital, Beijing, in 1947, during the country's civil war.
After the turmoil of the Cultural Revolution in his youth, he was a junior high school teacher in Tianjin from 1975 to 1979.
In 1979, at the age of 31, Gao Yusheng entered the Graduate School of Economics at Peking University.
In 1982, he joined the China Institute of International Affairs.
In 1984, he became a diplomat at the Russian School and worked at the Chinese Embassy in Moscow for 4 years as 3rd Secretary and 2nd Secretary.
From 1992, he again worked at the Chinese Embassy in Moscow for four years as First Secretary and Counsellor.
He then served as Chinese Ambassador to Turkmenistan for three years from 2000.
He subsequently served as the 6th Chinese Ambassador to Ukraine from November 2005 to January 2007.
After leaving office, he served as Deputy Secretary General of the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization), which links China and Russia with Central Asia.
Since then, he has frequently appeared at Chinese symposiums and in the media as an expert on Russia and Ukraine.
Unusually for a Chinese diplomat, he is known for his sharp-tongued and essential remarks.
The man who knows more about Ukraine than anyone else in China, made his case for the recent Russian invasion of Ukraine at a closed-door online symposium co-hosted by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the China 30-person International Finance Forum.
The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences was established in 1977 under the leadership of Deng Xiaoping as a think tank under the State Council (central government) of China.
Today, it is so-called the "brain of the Chinese government" with 31 research institutes, 45 research centers, and more than 4,200 members in total.
The China 30-person International Finance Forum was co-founded in August 2020 by Tsinghua University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, and the Shanghai Development Research Foundation to jointly study the internationalization of the renminbi and other issues.
Elite units from the People's Bank of China (Central Bank of China) and the Bank of China have also been sent to actively participate in the project.
Former Ambassador to Ukraine Gao Yusheng gave a lecture at one of these "central Chinese institutions.
On May 10, a news site in China operated by Phoenix Media Investment (Holdings) Limited of Hong Kong reported some of the content of the lecture, which caused quite a stir.
It was because the content of the lecture seemed to tarnish the Xi Jinping administration which sticks close to the Putin regime.
This article was "deleted in one second" processed by the authorities and disappeared immediately.
Now, both the lecture by former Ambassador Gao Yusheng and the symposium itself have been airbrushed out.
The pride of a former diplomat in his " Transcript of Statements.
In the midst of all this, we obtained the "Full Transcript of Remarks," in which former Ambassador Gao Yusheng reviewed his own remarks.
The entire transcript consists of four parts: Part 1 is an analysis of the war situation in Ukraine, Part 2 is a prediction of the war situation in the near future, Part 3 is Russia after the end of the war, and Part 4 is a frank discussion of the new international order after the war is over.
The following is the full transcript of his remarks.
It is a bit long, but I hope you can get a sense of the pride of a former Chinese diplomat specializing in Russia and Ukraine.
