U.S. Ambassador to Japan Rahm Emanuel on Friday congratulated Nihon Hidankyo , after it was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
Nihon Hidankyō is a group formed by hibakusha in 1956 with the goals of pressuring the Japanese government to improve support of the victims and lobbying governments for the abolition of nuclear weapon.
Emanuel said in a post on X,
“I have been immeasurably impressed with the atomic bomb survivors I have met and their admirable dedication to building a world without nuclear weapons. “
Emanuel previously served as the Chief of Staff for former President Barack Obama.
We know, In Prague in 2009, Obama said he was committed to pursuing a “world without nuclear weapons.”
Then he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
But under the Obama administration, nuclear disarmament has not been actually pursued.
And Biden has not made significant appeals for nuclear abolition or disarmament , even after the increased nuclear threat from Russia.
I guess ,
Emanuel said Nuclear weapons must never be used again.
Instead, Emanuel should say,
"The United States was wrong to actually use nuclear weapons."
