 米英戦争は、1812年6月から1814年12月までの期間、英国及びその植民地であるｶﾅﾀﾞ及び英国と同盟を結んだｲﾝﾃﾞｨｱﾝ諸部族と、米国との間でおこなわれた北米植民地戦争であり、ｲﾝﾃﾞｨｱﾝ戦争です。War of 1812、第２次独立戦争とも言われ、領土の奪い合いとなりました。この戦争の末期の、1814年12月から１８１５年1月にかけて行われた米英最後の戦いがThe Battle Of New Orleans（ﾆｭｰｵﾘﾝｽﾞの戦い）です。英軍がﾙｲｼﾞｱﾅ沿岸に到着。Andrew Jackson(ｱﾝﾄﾞﾘｭｰ・ｼﾞｬｸｿﾝ）将軍率い、米軍はﾆｭｰｵﾘﾝｽﾞからﾐｼｼｯﾋﾟ河下流へ5ﾏｲﾙ (約8km) のｼｬﾙﾒｯﾄに陣を構え、英軍への先制攻撃を開始、戦いの始まりとなった。その後何度もも衝突があったが1815年1月に米軍が勝利し戦いは終了した。そして、米軍のAndrew Jacksonは功績を評価され、後に第7代合衆国大統領に就任した。

この戦いに題材に Jimmy Driftwood(ｼﾞﾐｰ･ﾄﾞﾘﾌﾄｳｯﾄﾞ)は曲を書きました。1959年ニJohnny Horton(ｼﾞｮﾆｰ・ﾎｰﾄﾝ)はｼﾝｸﾞﾙをﾘﾘｰｽ、その年のﾋﾞﾙﾎﾞｰﾄﾞHot100のNo,1となりました。The　Brothers Fourは1964年ﾘﾘｰｽのｱﾙﾊﾞﾑ”More Big Folk Hits”に 、Nitty Gritty Dirt Band(ﾆｯﾃｨｰ・ｸﾞﾘｯﾃｨｰ･ﾀﾞｰﾄ･ﾊﾞﾝﾄﾞ)は1973年 ﾘﾘｰｽのｱﾙﾊﾞﾑ”Hank Wilson's Back!”に曲を収めています。なお、ｽｹｯﾄ銃は先込め式火縄銃、ﾘｽ銃は鳥や小動物を撃つ空気銃のことです。

We stood by our cotton bales and didn't say a thing.

If we didn't fire our muskets 'til we looked 'em in the eye
We held our fire 'til we see'd their faces well.
Then we opened up with squirrel guns and really gave'em well
