The world of idol music

The world of idol music
アイドル音楽の世界

In the afternoon, I received an email from my neighbor.

"What would you like to have with your drink today? Yakitori? Or steak?"

I don't feel like eating meat today.

"Sashimi would be good," I replied.

When my neighbor came back from shopping, we started drinking at 3 o'clock.

My neighbor works in Tokyo and comes back every other day.

If he comes back on the weekend, we drink on Saturday night or Sunday afternoon.

Since we live next door to each other, we don't need to go out to bars.

We share the same hobby: literature.

When the house next door became vacant, I introduced it to him, who wanted to get away from the Tokyo atmosphere.

It's been a few years since he moved in.

In the past, we used to brag about passing the first and second rounds of various literary awards, but he has already lost his ambition to make it in the world.

When the alcohol starts to flow, we talk about literature and other things.

We've been friends like this for decades.
And now, he finds solace in Twitter, and I in my blog.

As we toast with beer and start drinking, he takes out his smartphone as usual and shows me the results of his tweets.

Some are in the hundreds, while others are filled with numbers that reach into the thousands.

I ask him what he's trying to say in just a few lines, but his intentions are so deep (?) that I often don't understand.

Most of the time, he's saying something completely off the mark and is dumbfounded.

I've also bragged about getting over 5,000 views on a preview the other day, so it's like I'm in a rut.

But that's why I can eat and get drunk and sometimes sing (?).

Today, there was a ladies' golf game, and from 5 o'clock we ate and drank while watching K-POP on cable TV.

As for K-POP, the promotion of TWICE worked well.

I'm not one to listen to K-POP to begin with, but when KARA was popular, I played their music for him through his PC a lot.

When talking about those days, he says he started listening to KARA's music because he saw them on TV and enjoyed them.

It seems he has forgotten about the part about how he promoted them.

Maybe he started listening to TWICE's music because he eventually thought it was okay to listen to it on his smartphone.

Today on cable TV, a K-POP program featured girl groups such as Girl's Day, LOVELYZ, gugudan, OH MY GIRL, and PRISTIN.

He doesn't know anything about K-POP, but after TWICE started to gain popularity, we started watching Produce 101 (Season 1), a music program on cable TV, together while drinking.

He remembered Nayeon (PRISTIN) and Sejeong (gugudan) who appeared on the show.

He had explained that the show was from last year, so when he saw them appear as part of a girl group, he was surprised and said, "They've already debuted."

"Sejeong debuted right after that show finished," I told him.

"It's been a while since Nayeon and Kyulkyung debuted. I've been watching them for a long time, but which group did you think would make it at the time?"

"Was it Sejeong who came out first? I thought that group would make it. PRISTIN isn't bad either."

"Really...?"
I tilted my head. I tried asking him his opinion on Oh My Girl and Lovelyz.

"They're no good. They're like AKB and Keyakizaka. You can't just copy AKB."
"Copycat... Their singing ability is completely different."

"They're not. No one is going to listen to singing ability with dance songs like that."

"..."

I got the strong impression that he was saying gugudan and PRISTIN were good because he was watching their laughter and tears on "Produce 101" that I was watching now.

Because he thought it sounded similar to AKB, he stopped listening to the singing voices of OH MY GIRL and LOVELYZ.

The world of idol music is mysterious and mysterious, and it is truly deep.
