2010(平成22)年02月17日(wed) It was reported that ＥＭＩ had put the studios up for sale because of increasing debts. There was reported interest by property developers in redeveloping the site into luxury flats.[25] It had also been reported there was a possibility the studios could be purchased by the National Trust[26] to preserve what was in effect a historical building. Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber was reported to have bid ￡30 million to purchase the studios but was turned down by EMI.[27] A Save Abbey Road Studios campaign attempted to ensure the premises remained a working studio.[28]
2010(平成22)年02月21日(sun) ＥＭＩ stated it planned to keep the studio and was looking for an investor to help finance a "revitalization" project.[29][30] Meanwhile, the British government declared Abbey Road Studios a Grade II listed building which protected it from major alteration.[30][31] The following December, the pedestrian crossing at Abbey Road was listed on the National Heritage List.[32]
2010(平成22)年02月16日(tue) Paul McCartney, speaking to BBC Newsnight, said there had been efforts to save Abbey Road by "a few people who have been associated with the studio for a long time," although he did not name them or include himself among them. "I have so many memories there with the Beatles," McCartney said, "It still is a great studio. So it would be lovely for someone to get a thing together to save it."[33]

1963(昭和38)年(火) 秋の全英ツアー中。この日はポーツマスのギルド・ホール公演の予定であったが、ポールがインフルエンザに罹患し腹をこわしたために中止になった。振り替え公演は翌月3日、同時に昼から予定されていたサザン・テレビの番組「デイ・バイ・デイ」への出演は中止になった。その穴埋めに、公演予定だったギルド・ホールの楽屋にリポーターのジェレミー・ジェイムズのインタビューに応じ、同番組で放送された。
またＢＢＣのテレビ番組「サウス・トゥデイ」のインタビュー収録が宿泊先だったサウスシー・ホテルで行われたが、早い時間であったためにポールも同席している。

"Musical memories

It was 1963 and I was at London University in England. I and several friends were quite interested in the American music scene at that time. Thus we were very excited when we heard that Buddy Holly and the Crickets and the Everly Brothers would be appearing at the Lewisham Odeon. We managed to avoid going to the pub for a week and then we had enough money to buy our tickets. The appointed evening came and off we went on the bus.
Those were the days when concerts usually had a couple of opening acts and the headliners only came on after intermission. The first band to perform was totally forgettable. Then the Master of Ceremonies came on stage and said:
"Ladies and Gentlemen, on their first visit to London from Liverpool, please give a big welcome to John, Paul, George and Ringo: The Beatles".
Well these four young guys came on stage dressed in black pants; white shirts, black string ties and black jackets, but the jackets didn't have lapels. They all had long hair covering their ears and down their back with almost a pudding basin cut along the front. Three of them had guitars and the fourth one sat behind a drum set. Another ho hum band we thought.
However, from the opening chord, not only did they get our attention, but everyone's in the theatre. The first number they played was: "Love Me Do". It had a great catchy tune, lyrics you could understand and the whole band was animated. The rest of their set was electrifying and they left the stage to a standing ovation. We obviously enjoyed the two American bands, but the show was long and we missed our last bus back to our lodgings. However, on the walk back, we all talked about this new band that we had heard for the first time.
Now those were the days when we did not have cell phones or computers. On the weekend, I wrote to my girlfriend back home. I told her about going to the concert and how much we all enjoyed this new band. I even predicted that they would be the "Next Big Thing" in British music. What did I know about music though? They would probably fade into oblivion like so many others. However, this time I was right, but their success was much bigger than I had anticipated.
Unfortunately, my girlfriend who became my wife, did not keep that letter and I didn't keep the concert ticket, something I have subsequently rectified. Now, whenever I hear that number it reminds me of my fabulous days at University and the courtship, from afar most of the time, with my wife of now over 40 years."

NOTE: Tony's memory is obviously a bit muddled. This was indeed The Beatles' first concert in London proper, and they did play "Love Me Do", but Buddy Holly was long gone and the Crickets never appeared on the same bill as The Beatles, although Tommy Roe shared some of Buddy's vocal mannerisms. Presumably Tony conflated this concert with a later occasion: The Everly Brothers did play the Lewisham Odeon on 31 October 1963; also on the bill were The Rolling Stones, Bo Diddley, and Little Richard.

問題児だったジョン・レノン、高校時代の“居残り表”がオークションに

高校時代、問題児だったジョン・レノンに対し、教師が居残り（もしくは自習）を言い渡した一覧表がオークションにかけられることになった。この表によると、レノンは1日に2回はざら、3回注意を受けることもあったようだ。

これは、レノンが15～16歳、リバプールのQuarry Bank High Schoolに通っていたときに記されたもの。日付と共に“騒がしい”“ケンカ”“何事にもやる気がない”“宿題をやってこなかった”“おしゃべり”“妨害行為”“質問に対する人を馬鹿にしたような返答”“自習に15分遅刻”など罰せられた理由が記されている。
一覧表は1970年代、校内の倉庫に保存していた古い書類を燃やすよう言われた新任教師が、レノンの名前を見つけ、記念に取っておいたものだという。今回、1955年5月19日から6月23日、11月25日から翌年2月13日の間に綴られた2ページがオークションに出品する。
レノンに科学を教えていたという元教師ピーター・ビーチ氏は、BBCにこう話している。「これは、ジョン・レノンらしい。ものすごく悪戯好きな少年だった。でも彼は、限度というものを知っていたよ。もし授業中、ジョンを落ち着かせることができたら、クラス全体を落ち着かせることができた」
一覧表は11月22日(fri)、Tracksauction.comにてネット・オークションにかけられる。それぞれのページに対し、2,000～3,000ポンド（約32～48万円）の落札価格が予想されている。

保育器の中の赤ちゃんにビートルズの『BLACKBIRD（ブラックバード）』を歌い聞かせる父親の動画が大きな反響を呼んでいる。この赤ちゃんはこの4日後に死亡、母親は出産の際に亡くなっている。

「人生は一瞬で変わってしまう」。ABCのインタビューでそう答えた父親のクリス氏は、8日(土)、未熟児として生まれた息子のレノン君に歌を歌ってあげようと、ギターを片手にロサンゼルス郊外の病院へ向かった。妻のアシュリーが生前、音楽を聴くとお腹の中のレノン君がよく動くと話していたことを思い出したというクリス氏。「妻が生きていればきっと、レノンに歌を聞かせてほしいと望んだと思う。だから歌うと決めたんだ」と語っている。同じような境遇の人々にも勇気を持ってもらいたいと、クリス氏の友人が収めたこの動画は12日(水)に公開され、400万回以上再生されている
