いろいろなエピソードが伝えられているわらべ歌。
焼かれたパイの中から２４羽のクロツグミが飛び出して歌い出すなんて
まったく奇想天外でマザーグースの面白いところですね。
「オズの魔法使い」がドロシーに贈ったケーキはこの唄をヒントにして
いるらしいです。
イギリスのblackbirdはクロツグミ、クロウタドリと呼ばれ
その名の通り美しい声で鳴き、イギリスのどこにでもいる鳥で、
ピーターラビットのお話にも出てきます。マクレガーーさんがピーターの
上着をかかしにして追い払ったのが、「クロツグミ」です。
アメリカではblackbirdと言えばムクドリのような鳥で、キーキーと
きしむような鳴き声しか出さないそうです。
