DOLPHINS RE-SIGN VONNIE HOLLIDAY
MIAMI – The Miami Dolphins today re-signed defensive tackle Vonnie Holliday to a four-year contract through the 2010 season, the team announced.
“I’m happy we were able to sign Vonnie to this new contract and I appreciate the work Randy Mueller and our administrative staff did in getting it completed,” said Dolphins Head Coach Cam Cameron. “Not only has he been a major part of one of the league’s top defensive units the last two years, but he also has been one of the key veteran leaders in the locker room. In addition, it addresses one of our top offseason priorities, which is to retain our own players who have been productive members of the team. During our recent conversations, both Randy and I agreed that signing Vonnie was a high priority.”
Last year, Holliday was an integral part of a defense that finished fourth in the NFL, as they allowed an average of just 289.1 yards per game. He started all 16 games and finished fourth on the team with 66 tackles, including seven sacks, a figure which was second on the squad and tied for third among NFL interior linemen. Holliday joined the Dolphins in 2005 as an unrestricted free agent from Kansas City, and in his two seasons with Miami, he has started all 32 contests and recorded 122 tackles and 12 sacks. In Holliday’s two seasons with the Dolphins, the team has produced two of the five-highest single-season sack totals in franchise history, while also allowing a combined average of just 3.6 yards per rush attempt.
