『古事記』邇邇藝命 5 ≪改訂版≫
故爾詔天宇受賣命「此立御前所仕奉、猨田毘古大神者、專所顯申之汝、送奉。亦其神御名者、汝負仕奉。」是以、猨女君等、負其猨田毘古之男神名而、女呼猨女君之事是也。
故其猨田毘古神、坐阿邪訶此三字以音、地名時、爲漁而、於比良夫貝自比至夫以音其手見咋合而、沈溺海鹽。故其沈居底之時名、謂底度久御魂度久二字以音、其海水之都夫多都時名、謂都夫多都御魂自都下四字以音、其阿和佐久時名、謂阿和佐久御魂。自阿至久以音。
於是送猨田毘古神而還到、乃悉追聚鰭廣物・鰭狹物以問言「汝者天神御子仕奉耶。」之時、諸魚皆「仕奉。」白之中、海鼠不白。爾天宇受賣命、謂海鼠云「此口乎、不答之口。」而、以紐小刀拆其口、故、於今海鼠口拆也。是以、御世嶋之速贄獻之時、給猨女君等也。
≪英訳≫
The command of Princess Ame-no-Uzume was as follows: 'You shall present and pay respect to Sarutahiko, the great god who served with devotion, and reveal the name of that deity to whom you pay homage. You shall also receive and serve that god.'
Thus, the male nobles of Sarume-no-kimi inherited the name of the male god Sarutahiko, and the females came to be called Sarume-no-kimi.
The god Sarutahiko, while fishing at the cape called Azaka, was bitten by a shellfish on his hand. As a result, he sank to the bottom of the sea and drowned.
When he sank to the bottom of the sea, he was called Sokotsuku-mitama, when the sea water foamed, he was called Tsubutatsu-mitama, and when the foam dispersed, he was called Awa-saku-mitama.
Later, when Sarutahiko was sent out and returned, he gathered various fishes and asked them, 'Do you have the intention to serve the children of the heavenly gods?' All the fishes replied, 'Yes, we shall serve.' Only the sea cucumber remained silent.
Thereupon, Princess Uzume asked the sea cucumber, 'Are you not going to answer?' and she cut its mouth open with a small knife. Since then, the mouth of the sea cucumber has been split.
As a result of this event, in successive generations, offerings of fish are presented from the land of Shima to the noblewomen called Sarume-no-kimi.
≪この英文の和訳≫
ここにアメノウズメの命(みこと)に仰せられるには「この御前に立つてお仕え申し上げたサルタ彦の大神を、顯し申し上げたあなたがお送り申せ。またその神のお名前はあなたが受けてお仕え申せ」と仰せられました。そしてその神の名前はあなたが受けてお仕えしなさい」と。それによって、猿女の君(きみ)たちは猿田彦の男神の名前を受け継いでおり、女性は猿女の君(きみ)と呼ばれるようになったのです。
猿田彦神は、アザカという岬で漁(すなどり)をしていた時、ヒラブ貝に手をかまれて海水に溺れました。彼が海底に沈んでいた時の名前は「底度久御魂（そこつくみたま）」と言い、海水が泡立つ時の名前は「粒立御魂（つぶたつみたま）」、泡が開く時の名前は「泡咲御魂（あわさくみたま）」と言います。
その後、猿田彦神を送り出して帰ってきた時、さまざまな魚を集めて尋ねました。「あなたたちは天の神の子に仕えるつもりですか」と。すると、魚たちは皆「仕えます」と答えましたが、海鼠(なまこ)だけが答えませんでした。ウズメの命はサルタ彦を送り、彼が戻ってきた後、さまざまな大きさの魚たちを集め、「天の神の御子に仕える気持ちはありますか」と尋ねました。魚たちは皆、「お仕え申し上げます」と答えましたが、ただ海鼠(なまこ)だけが黙っていました。そこでウズメの命は海鼠に尋ねました「返事をしないのですか？」そして、彼女は小刀で海鼠の口を裂きました。それ以来海鼠の口は裂けているのです。
この出来事のため、以降の世々、志摩の国から魚の貢物が猿女の君(きみ)たちに贈られるのです。
