About Cosmic Girls and Multiplayer Girls (Girls' Generation and others)
宇宙少女と多人数ガールズ(少女時代その他)について

The girl group that got off to the best start this year was MOMOLAND.

The comeback title song "Boom Boom," released early in the new year, made a successful start and became a huge hit that was loved throughout the year.

Just like MOMOLAND this year, next year is going to be their year, and WJJ, Apink, and GFRIEND are gradually accelerating their preparations for a good start in 2019.

WJJ posted individual photo teasers of Bona and Eunseo as the concept of their new album "WJ STAY?"

Bona is wearing an elegant light purple blouse. Her cool gaze and expression waiting for the arrival of spring are impressive.

Eunseo also appeals to the femininity of an adult with her pure and modest expression.

And the two of them look very similar.

It is said that beautiful women naturally look alike.

If the two in the photo had similar makeup, they could be called sisters.

WJSN's distinctive feature is their "polite purity and visual excellence" that controls their emotions.

Like sisters who have different facial features but have similar aspects, the members of WJSN always exude an air of having many things in common.

This tends to happen when girl groups perform according to a concept, but WJSN, who control their emotions and create stages with rich stories, with EXI at the center, seem like real sisters.

Girl groups also have cycles in their style.

TWICE strongly emphasizes the individuality of each member and succeeds in bringing out the best in each member's charm.

The nine members spread their charm in whatever direction they like, and by weaving it together horizontally, their overall popularity has greatly increased.

However, it is difficult to find a girl group that can follow TWICE's popularity using the same method.

BLACKPINK and Red Velvet are also girl groups that have been successful in bringing out the individuality of their members, but compared to TWICE, the number of members is different.

I heard that BLACKPINK was originally conceived as a girl group with about nine members in mind, but what would have happened if they had debuted with all nine members?

I think they probably wouldn't have been as successful as they are now.

Jenny, Lisa, Rosé, and Jisoo may have become popular.

But their popularity may have remained a little smaller.

There are many girls who are made up of nine members.

The basis for this seems to be Girls' Generation, who achieved great success as a girl group.

KARA could be said to be the model for a five- or six-member girl group.

There's no doubt that they are modeling themselves after the two groups that led the K-POP boom in 2010.

Girls' Generation and KARA were hugely popular in Japan, Korea, and Asia, but it's hard to say that either group was able to fully engage in activities that were commensurate with their popularity.

They did a great job, but if you compare it to a novel, it's a masterpiece, but it can't be denied that the final chapter lacked excitement.

The overall performance was amazing.

It was certainly amazing.

In baseball terms, in the first half they hit brilliantly and scored points easily.

However, in the second half their offensive power weakened and they lost points (due to members leaving the group and lack of activity) (the fading popularity of K-pop may have also played a role).

Both Girls' Generation and KARA had the potential to achieve great things, but their agencies did not have the capacity to adapt to this boom.

Both agencies may not have been able to take good care of them and allowed Girls' Generation and KARA to continue their activities.

Both Girls' Generation and KARA sang many good songs, but as time passes, the only songs that appear in recent Challenge K-pop shows are Girls' Generation's "Gee" and KARA's "Mamma Mia."

K-pop is also entertainment music.
Even if a song is all the rage, it can't beat the songs that are popular at the time.

This means that they only appear as classic songs from "that time, that time" on nostalgic music shows.

So while I occasionally click on their songs to listen, I feel sad that the number of views isn't increasing, as if they've been forgotten.

I'm interested in whether TWICE can complete the final part of the Girls' Generation style.

Girls' Generation must have dreamed of a complete form like TWICE.

In other words, the perfection of a musical style in which all nine members can blossom and create a performance stage by anyone, in any way.

However, no one knows whether TWICE, which still has a long way to go, can see it through to the end.

Even if their popularity fades, it will be enough if they can exude a sense of having done their best.

The reason so many girls with around nine members have been born is probably because Girls' Generation was their role model, and because they are witnessing the success of TWICE.

However, it has become a trend that none of the girls can get a share of TWICE's success.

Even if they can release hit songs, the members' popularity never increases.
Even if they do appear, there are only about three or four people, including the vocal and visual lines...the other members are just backup dancers.

This way their popularity won't grow and they won't spread.

All nine members of TWICE have become TWICE's calcite characters.

Other girls can't easily reach this level.

At most three or four become calcite, and the rest are no different from mere extras (backup dancers).

WJSN started out aiming to be like Girls' Generation, but they are now looking for a way to change channels.

It's the "family ties" style.

Rather than making the group into completely individual characters, they create a fantasy image of "sisters" and use that as a container (even a spaceship) to come up with a story (stage).

Even if they can't become like TWICE, I feel that WJSN is steadily following the path of a girl group that is unique to them.

Even if each member is small, I think that's enough as long as they can have a place for solo activities.
