今後の舵取り難しい「I.O.I」

I.O.I's first unit is born! 7 out of 11 members will be active... who are not included?

I.O.I, which was formed from the Mnet audition program "Produce 101", has formed its first unit.

On the 10th, their agency YMC Entertainment revealed the seven unit members Jeon Somi (15), Choi Yoojung (16), Kim Chungha (20), Kim Sohye (16), Joo Kyulkyung (17), Kim Doyoung (16), and Lim Nayoung (20) through I.O.I's official fan cafe.

The four members not included are Kim Sejeong (19), Kang Mina (16), Jung Chaeyoung (18), and Yoo Yeonjung (16).

The agency said, "The unit members are currently working hard to prepare to show a new side of themselves," and added, "Kim Sejeong, Kang Mina, and Jung Chaeyeon, who are not part of the unit, will return to their respective agencies and work as group members of their respective agencies for which they have been preparing for a long time."

The agency then explained the reason for Yoo Yeonjung's departure, stating the position of her agency, Starship Entertainment. Starship explained, "Using the experience she gained through I.O.I, she plans to practice hard to show a more mature side of herself. In the future, she plans to return to activities as a complete group with a more developed side."

While it was reported that Kim Nayoung, Kang Mina, and Kim Sejeong would be forming a girl group, the main group I.O.I has also formed its first unit.

This group is likely to become the core of I.O.I.

However, it is a bit concerning that Kim Sejeong, who is highly regarded for her popularity and outstanding singing ability, is not included.

If the rising stars Jeon Somi and Kim Sejeong split up, it could be seen as a sign of a split by those who are sensitive.

Since this is a limited-time activity, the members have no choice but to look beyond that.

It's similar to students looking for jobs before graduating.

Depending on the fans' reaction, this unit may debut as a new girl group.

It's not a case of a revolt, but if something unusual happens to the members, there is a possibility that some will leave, the group will split up, or a new trend will form.

To be honest, it feels like Kim Sejeong and Jeon Somi should not have split up.

It was thought that if the members could be narrowed down further around these two, they could build a group that could rival the rising stars of TWICE and GFRIEND.

However, this assessment appears to have been optimistic.

The current momentum of TWICE and GFRIEND is such that they cannot compete on equal terms with the "Produce 101" forces behind I.O.I.

It is understandable that they are a hodgepodge of various agencies and have difficult circumstances.

However, if they hesitate, there is even a concern that they will be left behind and lose their presence.

Groups that cannot be active for long should quickly get the group together and make a strong start.

The best time to reap the rewards is in the right season.
