QB Brees touts Dolphins offensive line coach

San Diego Chargers quarterback Drew Brees spoke highly Thursday of Hudson Houck, his team's former offensive line coach now in charge of the Dolphins' beleaguered unit.

"He was awesome," Brees said after practicing for the EA Sports NFL Quarterback Challenge on a makeshift field behind the Bahia Mar Beach Resort & Yachting Center. "I think it's amazing that you take five guys who have never played with each other ... and he puts them together and says, `You have four months to become one of the best offensive lines in this league.'

"That's a huge challenge, and Coach Houck was a huge part of that."

Brees, 26, went from almost losing his job to rookie Philip Rivers to earning Pro Bowl honors while playing behind Houck's revamped offensive line, which included two rookies.

"When you know what you're doing, you're going to be more confident, and those guys knew what they were doing because Coach Houck made sure," Brees said.

The Chargers' offensive line allowed 20 sacks, fourth-fewest in the league. Miami allowed 52.

今年はQBがちゃんと投げれて、RBが走れるOLを期待します。

The Boston Globe reported that the Dolphins have expressed interest in free-agent cornerback Ty Law, who would serve as a replacement for Will Poole, who suffered a knee injury last week. Law met Tuesday with the Detroit Lions and also has reportedly received feelers from Pittsburgh, Indianapolis and the New York Jets.

Traylor will decide soon

Miami Herald

The Dolphins have held talks with the agent for former New England defensive tackle Keith Traylor, and he is expected to make a decision within a week about where he will sign.

''We've had some talks with two or three teams, including the Dolphins, I think that's a fair way to put it,'' said agent Jordan Woy, who represents Traylor. Woy said the Dolphins discussed a significant role for Traylor, including the chance to compete for a starting job.

The Dolphins are concerned about the health of returning defensive tackles Larry Chester and Tim Bowens. Chester is recovering from a knee injury and is expected to be held out of practices during training camp.

Bowens missed all but one game last season with a back injury, and his rehabilitation has been inconsistent this offseason. In fact, Bowens has walked out of several rehab sessions with the team trainers out of frustration.

Traylor, 34 and heading into his 14th season, is an experienced run-stopper in either the 3-4 or 4-3 defenses Dolphins coach Nick Saban hope to play. Traylor played in 16 games with 10 starts for New England last season, helping the Patriots to their third title in four years.

Don Shula sighting

Pro Football Hall of Fame coach Don Shula was in Chicago last week to tend to some business interests involving his restaurant located in the Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers.

While riding in a limo with wife Mary Anne along Lake Shore Drive, Shula asked the driver to pull over so he could get a better look at the renovated Soldier Field.

Shula, who surpassed Bears founder and coach George Halas as the league's winningest coach, then asked a Soldier Field receptionist if someone could take him on an impromptu tour of the field and stadium.

Soldier Field general manager Tim Lefevour, who used to work for the Bears, gladly escorted Shula and his wife on a tour of the lakefront facility.
