The pitfalls of democracy
As the feudal system gave way to a civil society and the idea of equality spread, citizens were given equal suffrage. A long time has passed since then, but it seems that there are still many people who are not necessarily grateful for the right to vote.
That's fine, but what's troubling is that there are entrepreneurs who are willing to sell their voting rights or donate to politicians in exchange for getting laws and regulations made that are favorable to their businesses.
Democracy works effectively if the citizens are civilized, but if they are not, it has a negative effect. Looking at the current situation around the world, populism is on the rise and many countries are falling into populist politics.
When we talk about the political sense of a country's citizens, there are some who are civilized and some who are civilized poorly.
It is desirable for the correct policies and direction of a country to be decided primarily by people with a high level of civility, but in an era when democracy is spreading and becoming established, all citizens are given equal voting rights, and it has become as if this is something that should be taken for granted.
As a result of the above, money politics and populist politics have become widespread, but it will be extremely difficult to resolve the abnormal situation in which all citizens have equal voting rights. In a sense, this situation can be called a pitfall of democracy.
