Welina mai e na hoa pili i ka hula

Eo mai ke Akua o ka Hula
O Laka ka mea i ola ai
O Laka ke Akua o ka Hula
O ke Akua ke ola o ka lani
Pili ke ola hula i ke ola mau a mau
Ua ko ia ka hula e Kumu Keala
He Pili no keia i ko'u haumana
He kuleana ko'u i ko'u haumana

He aloha ko'u i ke Akua o ka lani

Welina mai kakou,

(Rejoice the Goddess of Hula
Laka is the one that lives on
Laka is the Goddess of Hula
The Higher Power is life
Hula is related to life forever
The hula moves forward by Kumu Keala
It is related to my students
My responsibility to my students
and their responsibility to the living hula
My love for the Higher Power

Greetings to you all,

My deepest appreciation to all of you that attended my ceremony at Kahalelehua. Tears of happiness filled by heart to hear all of you chanting at the beginning requesting entrance, to your warm welcome as Kumu introduced each Kumu Hula, to your warm welcome of leis. Thank you very much!

Your actions represented your love of your teacher, this is whatmany kumu within the class shared. Many of them with tears in their eyes expressed these words to me. Thank you!

Kumu really appreciated you all attending this ceremony traveling from Kona.

My heart is filled with joy to have you all as my students (in attendances or not), your love has been felt and needed in Hilo by myself. Thank you very much. I know that we will have time to sit together to share stories of this wonderful process.

My love and aloha to you all for your support and energy.
I love you all, Kumu

What does this all mean?

It means that I have graduated with the honor of being a Kumu Hula with a traditional <SCRIPT></SCRIPT> graduation of hula knowledge. As students of hula it will be your responsibility to recognize such distinction of art with traditions of Kumu Kawaikapuokalani and his teachers, Aunty Edith Kanaka'ole, Aunty 'Iolani Luahine, Aunty Nalani Kalama, and Aunty Emma DeFries. And, Now I honor and respect these teachers as my teachers. Your honor will show based upon your respect and honor to your teacher, Kumu Keala, as you become
students of this traditions as well.

Ke akua pu ma ke aloha・・・
