When I read that "A famous tennis player wore an expensive watch worth over $1 million to play," I felt desperate.
Many people would say, "What's wrong with a talented athlete with a lot of money?", "That's the proof what capitalism is superior", "It's a poor man's envy". But I dare say. We should ask ourselves, "How far do we need to go to widen the Gap between the rich and the poor only to feel satisfied as Followers of Liberalism?”
Japan, United States and Western Europe are "Liberal Countries”. Liberal Countries are supported by "Democracy" and "Capitalism". Democracy allows the people to freely elect their own rulers. And Capitalism allows the people to have a fair opportunity to gain wealth through free economic activity.
In a "Liberal Country" people can enjoy their freedom without social, political, or economic constraints or oppression. “That should have been the case". But unfortunately, it is only a fiction. The reality is that in a Liberal Country, only "Winners" can enjoy “Liberalism”.
In the first place, human beings are different in terms of race, gender, health, ability, body shape and appearance. Unfortunately, we are not created equal. If such unequal human beings are made to compete with each other by the same rules, it would be as if the winner is already decided. Because the differences in health, ability, body shape and appearance are difficult to overcome, besides race and gender.
It would be natural that the Gap arises from the competition like that. What is even more painful is that such Gap is passed on from parent to child and from child to grandchild. In that context, it seems to be growing but not shrinking.
When we are young, we can't stand and struggle with these innate inequalities. Sooner or later, however, we become occupied with living. We give up on the idea that cursing inequality is not worth it, and we think that only Winners can enjoy Liberalism. Certainly, that may be a safe way to live.
But that's not the way to live. Besides, Liberalism that endorses "winner-takes-all competition with no resurrection" is ridiculous. Democracy and Capitalism, which support Liberalism, would not survive if more and more people continue to live in despair in “The 100 Years of Life Era.”
If we continue to let the Gap persist, Liberalism will collapse internally before it collapses due to external ideological challenges that oppose it. Let's rise up before it becomes irreversible. Let's work for a society where everyone can enjoy Liberalism to the Fullest.
