Mnet launches "Idol School" for girl groups... Aiming to debut in the second half
Mnet, which has created the myth of success with girl group debut projects such as I.O.I from "Produce 101" and TWICE from "SIXTEEN", has unveiled a new project that will lead the second half of this year.
The project is to establish Korea's first specialized educational institution for girl groups, "Idol School".
Mnet's "Idol School" is an idol training project, and it will begin its long journey by recruiting students to enter Korea's first specialized educational institution for training girl groups.
The group is scheduled to be formed in July, and the school will officially recruit applicants on the 28th through its homepage.
Students entering "Idol School" will take a full 11-week curriculum, and the best students who pass the graduation exam after completing the curriculum will debut as a girl group when they graduate in the second half of 2017.
(From K-POP News)
★When K-POP girls are doing well, K-POP boys are twice as successful.
This seems to be becoming a reality.
That was the case with the K-POP boom in 2010. This boom was caused by KARA and Girls' Generation's Japanese debut.
This boom in Japan triggered K-POP to go global.
How would K-POP have developed if girl groups like KARA and Girls' Generation hadn't come to Japan?
This story probably doesn't mean much.
But I'm not going to keep it to myself, I'm going to say it.
The momentum of K-POP's expansion into the world would probably have remained at half of what it is now, or even less.
It's almost certain that the rise in popularity of BIGBANG, TVXQ, and other boys was stimulated by the success of KARA and Girls' Generation, creating a big wave.
With KARA breaking up, 2NE1 also falling apart, and Girls' Generation in retirement, girl groups were on the brink of a slump.
However, with the emergence of GFRIEND and TWICE in 2015, and BLACKPINK in 2016, it seems as though a new boom is on the way.
It is no coincidence that the success of boy groups such as BTS has suddenly grown alongside the success of girl groups like TWICE.
Let's say that the pilot of a certain passenger plane bound for K-POP is very handsome.
A fan would occasionally fly on the plane out of curiosity to see the handsome man, but the frequency of the flight eventually decreased.
However, one time she happened to fly, she noticed that the replacement cabin attendant was young and attractive.
She then began to wonder what had happened to the handsome pilot.
With the pleasant service of the cabin attendant, the K-POP flight became enjoyable again... and the number of flights increased, and so on... Well, I believe there is some kind of causal relationship that brings about synergy.
K-POP is strong with dance music.
Women will soon take the lead in dance music (you can see this clearly by looking at ballet, for example).
From my perspective, the establishment of Korea's first specialized educational institution for girl groups, "Idol School", was very late.
