KPMG faces complaints over Isle of Man tax scheme

KPMGが、カナダにおいて、The Association of Canadian Finance Officersという団体から、職業専門家の行為規範に違反しているとして審査請求を受けているという記事。オフショアの租税スキームを使って富裕なカナダ人がカナダの税金を逃れるのを助けたとされています。

The Association of Canadian Finance Officers (ACFO) has filed two formal complaints of professional misconduct against KPMG regarding an offshore tax structure used by the firm to help wealthy Canadians avoid paying Canadian taxes

この団体は自主規制組織であるChartered Professional Accountants (CPA)に対し、1999年に、マン島の法人を使ったタックスプランを創出したKPMGの業務を、調査するよう求めています。

According to reports in the Globe and Mail, the ACFO has called on the Ontario and Quebec chapters of the self-regulating Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) to investigate KPMG’s work in creating a tax plan with a corporate structure in the Isle of Man, in 1999, which helped a number of wealthy clients avoid paying taxes.

The union, which represents more than 4,500 government financial officers, has asked the CPA to review the firm’s actions against the profession’s code of conduct, bylaws and regulations.

KPMGは、1999年当時は違法ではなかった、現在このようなスキームの提供は行っていないといった弁解をしています。

問題のタックスプランは16回実行され、それぞれ平均して100,000ドルの報酬を請求していたそうです。

KPMGの税務部門のトップだった人物が、議会に呼ばれて証言したりしているそうなので、それなりに大きな問題となっているのでしょう。
