★Report★ Part.2_The 9th Multicultral Meeting in NAGANO

 This article continues from part 1

◆Time for Chatting◆

We were divided into 4 groups by the lottery
and shared our feedback over a cup of coffee

East Team
3 junior high school students and ladies
with early twenties were chatting energetically.


West Team
Ladies had a good talk with Megan.

South Team
With 4 Filipinos they talked in English,
sometimes Filipinos talked in Tagalog.


North Team
Regular staff members had animated
conversations about interesting subjects.


We talked eating popcorn and Tapioca Soda.

 Each team’s members shared their feedback
and each team’s chat livened up
so time passed so first.

It’s a pity that we do not have the photo
of Mizuki who is the member of this Meeting
since “Korean Cafe”,
she is leaving for Korea to study Korean
for half year from the end of August.
So she made a farewell greeting to us.

⑦Closing of the Meeting

We are looking forward to seeing you again.


◆Notice◆

The next Multicultural Meeting in Nagano
will be held in September not in August.

(We will not have the usual every month
Multicultural Meeting at Tomitake House
in August)

In August we will start
“supportive activities for the people in overseas.”

With the selling of Kanondoccho
 and Tapioca Milk Tea at Binzuru Matsuri
which will be held in 2 and 3 of August
as the starting point, we will start advertising
“Multicultural Meeting in Nagano”and
“Supportive Activities for the People in Overseas”.

We will also sell the above mentioned
Kanondoccho and Tapioca Milk Tea
at “Uematsu Ohanaichi”
which will be held on 11 August
beginning at early evening.

The notice in detail about “Our Food Stand”
at “Uematsu Ohanaichi” will be uploaded
in another report later.

The 9th Multicultural Meeting
in Nagano
was held on Saturday,  

July 20 from 10:30 to 13:30
at TOMITAKE HOUSE
in Tomitake, Nagano- city

The theme
“Let us experience HAWAII!!”
was the theme of this time.


Participating countries:
USA: 1 person,
Philippine: 4 persons,
Lithuania: 2 persons,
Japan: 17 persons


Advance preparation

On Friday, June 28,
Ms. Megan Dung and we staff had
the meeting at the International Relations
Devision of Nagano prefecture.

On Friday, July 5,
we staff welcomed Megan at Tomitake House
and tried cooking cuisine of Hawaii.

We tried cooking Haupia,
Spam Musubi and Salad.


➀ Opening of the Meeting

Representative Shimizu
greeted to the participants.

②The schedule of this Meeting
was announced by MC Yagi.

She also introduced the presenter
Megan Dung
who is the staff of Nagano prefecture
International Relations,
was born in Hawaii and
her grandmother is Japanese.

③The introduction of Hawai
 Presentation of Hawaii was done by Megan Dung.



All the participants listened the presentation
of Hawaii eagerly for about 30 minutes.
Megan introduced Hawaii and also introduced
her experience of Japanese culture
to the participants.
We had never heard before what
Megan talked to us.
Before I knew it,
presentation time of Hawaii had passed.

This time we cannot upload the presentation
of Hawaii which was done by Megan.

④Cooking Hawaii cuisine
Divided into 4 teams,
we cooked salad and Spam Musubi.

Megan showed us the tips of
how to cook Spam Musubi.

2 filipino ladies and 2 handsome guys cooked well.

Junior high school student(photo in the left)
who took part in this meeting for the first time
also enjoyed cooking Spam Musubi

Actually tasting Hawaii cuisine.

From the front left of the photo is Spam Musubi
and Caesar salad, the back middle is Haupia,
back right is Guava juice.

They look very delicious.

The Second Section
Maria from Lithuania performed
Hawaiian dance.

She danced very beautifully
and looked like an angel.
Many ladies who were enjoying her
performance looked very happy
and their eyes were filled
with touching tears.


Maria and her mother greeted us for farewell
because they would leave for Lithuania
We miss them so much
but we wish them the best.
They smiled with “Shaka” pose
which was taught by Megan.
“Shaka” means “Hello”, “See you”,
“Thank you” and also Hawaiians pose
“Shaka” when they take picture.

We all together took commemorative photo.

The 8th Multicultural Meeting
in Nagano
was held on Saturday,  

June 22 from 10:30 to 13:30
at TOMITAKE HOUSE
in Tomitake, Nagano- city

The theme
“Let us learn Japanese emperors
and the new era name!!”


Participating countries:
Thailand: 1 person,
Philippine: 1 person,
Sri Lanka: 2 persons,
Lithuania: 2 persons,
Japan: 20 persons.


Opening of the Meeting
Representative Shimizu greeted to
the participants as follow:
 

“This time we staff have been studying
about Japanese emperors
and the new era name “Reiwa”
Our emperor performs rituals
dozens of times per year.
The main purpose of those rituals are
to offer prayer for the peace
and security of this nation
and welfare of the people.

The new era name “Reiwa”
consists of 2 Chinese characters
and the first Chinese character
“Rei” means “a man bends his knees
and offer prayer”.
I thought this man offering prayer
is our emperor!
So today let us learn our emperors
and the era name.”

③「Era Names and Emperor System
of Japan



Koyama was in charge of “Era Names”
and Haneda was in charge of
“Emperor System”


 
We learned the basic knowledge of
era names and characteristics
of emperors
and empresses of Meiji Era
(Oct 23, 1868~June 30, 1912)
to Heisei Era
(Jan 8, 1989~Apr 30, 2019).
We were extremely impressed
by the emperors and empresses
who have always been praying
for our happiness and also have been
cuddling close together for us.

 (Seasoned rice rolled in laver of
Japanese Apricot Flower )
We associated the Manyoshu’s
(the oldest extant collection of
Japanese poetry in classical japanese)
Poetry of Japanese apricot flower
(which is the source of “ReiWa’s Rei”)
with UmeHana(Japanese apricot flower)
-Norimaki(seasoned rice rolled in laver)

We were divided into 4 teams
and cooked them.

Flower-patterned cross-section are cute!

⑤Actually tasting

We ate delicious “Soba Salad”,
“UmeHana-Norimaki”,
“Ajisai(Hydrangea) Japanese confectionary”
and “Japanese-style soup”






⑥The Second Section First,
commemorative photo was taken.

Yogi announced the following message:
“Our Multicultural Meetings in Nagano
were held more than 8 times
so we will start a new action.
So far we have experienced 5 countries’
different cultures.
Therefore, our feelings toward
these countries are very close now.
There are many people in the world
who need our assistance, for this reason,
we will start supportive activities
for these countries.”

The 7th Multicultural Meeting
in Nagano
was held on Saturday,
 May 18 from 10:30 to 13:30
at Tomitake House in Nagano-city.

The theme
 “Let us experience Thailand!!”

Participating countries:
  Thailand:5persons,
Sri Lanka:2persons,
Japan:20 persons


Advance preparation

On Thursday, April 11

Ms. Waranpron Hotta
(afterward, we call her with her nickname
“Pon-chan” )
and we staff had the meeting.

 On Friday, April 19

we staff visited Pon-chan’s house
and there we tried cooking
Khao Man Gai and Green Curry

 On Friday, May 17

Pon-chan came to TOMITAKE HOUSE
after work and together with staff
prepared the lunch for the next day Meeting

 

 On Saturday, May 18 the Meeting day,

Pon-chan came to Tomitake House
together with her Thai’s friends.

And the right side is Ms. Kaori Hanami
(Titikarn).

Opening of the Meeting

The Meeting started with hearing
the national anthem of Thailand.

( In Thailand, everyday at 8 AM and 6PM
people stand at attention and listen to
the national anthem for about 1 minute
with a feeling of awe

 

Representative Shimizu greeted to
the participants as follow
 

“We have prepared this Meeting
with Pon-chan.
What impressed me most was
Pon-chan’s shining face
when we decided to start the Meeting
with hearing national anthem of Thailand.
I was amazed that she really loved
her country.
We gathered here to understand
each others’ loving country
so we can break down the barriers
between different countries.”

People in Thailand have strong trust
in the royal families.
95% of them are buddhists therefore
they are very religious
