スクイムの町に差し掛かると、オリンピック半島に固有のルーズベルト・エルクをかたどった金属製の彫刻がハイウェイの右側に設置されているのが見える。スクイムには約100頭のルーズベルト・エルクが群れをなして住んでおり、車が通る道路でさえも我が物顔で占領することがあるそうだ。オスのエルクは体重千ポンド、メスのエルクは体重700ポンドもあり、衝突すると車に乗っている方も大ケガをすることになりかねない。注意して運転しよう。

Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge Olympic Game Farmから所要時間１０分
スクイム最大の見どころは、やはり米国最長の自然砂でできた長さ5.5マイル（約8.8キロ）の砂塵（Spit）と、ダンジネス国立自然保護区域だろう。ここはアザラシや鹿などの野生動物や野鳥がたわむれる自然の宝庫。毎年15フィート（約4.5メートル）ずつ伸びる砂塵の先端にある灯台 "The New Dungeness Lighthouse" は1746年に建てられたもので、駐車場からこの灯台までは片道5マイル（約8キロ）のトレイルになっている。砂の上をゆっくり歩けば約3時間かかるが、少しでも歩いてみるべきだ。晴れた日はバンクーバー島やあざらしなどの海洋生物、鹿の群れなどを見ることができる。
Olympic National Park Hurricane Ridge Visitor Center
坂を約5マイル（約8キロ）上ると、オリンピック国立公園の入り口だ。入園許可証を購入（車両1台で1週間有効のものなら10ドル）。この許可証はきちんと保管しておこう。無料の地図と国立公園の新聞をもらい、"Have a nice visit!" と言われて出発。ここからハリケーン・リッジまでは1本道だが、反対側は崖でガードレールはほとんどないので、対向車線の車がちゃんと運転してくれることを祈るばかりだ。

フォークスから約4.5マイル（約7.2キロ）のリアルト・ビーチへ出発。ビーチの北端には、波によって穴が開いた "Hall in the Wall" という岩があるらしい。流木や石がゴロゴロしていて歩きにくいが、約15分歩いたところでようやくその岩を見ることができた。かなりたくさんの人たちが見に来ているので、砂浜は大賑わいだ。海岸の入り口には潮の干満の時刻表が貼付してあるので、必ず確認すること。太平洋に沈む夕日を眺めるのもおすすめ
Ruby Beach
海岸に見える赤土の色が名前の由来。駐車場から海岸までは下り坂1本ですぐ。夕日を眺める場所として人気がある。

ホーレイン・フォレストを訪れるのは、人が少ない早朝に限る。午前10時を過ぎると人が多くなり、虫も出てくるので、森の空気を肌に感じながら静かに散策することが難しくなるからだ。また、いつ雨が降るかわからないレイン・フォレストには、ウォータープルーフのジャケットや帽子を着用して出かけよう。"Hall of Mosses"（コケの殿堂）と呼ばれるトレイル（約0.75マイル/約1.2キロ）は、コケに覆われた樹齢数百年という巨大な樹木を見ることができるので、なかなかおもしろい。
