『古事記』應神天皇 3
一時、天皇越幸近淡海國之時、御立宇遲野上、望葛野歌曰、
知婆能 加豆怒袁美禮婆 毛毛知陀流 夜邇波母美由 久爾能富母美由
故、到坐木幡村之時、麗美孃子、遇其道衢。爾天皇問其孃子曰「汝者誰子。」答白「丸邇之比布禮能意富美之女、名宮主矢河枝比賣。」天皇卽詔其孃子「吾明日還幸之時、入坐汝家。」故、矢河枝比賣、委曲語其父、於是父答曰「是者天皇坐那理。此二字以音。恐之、我子仕奉。」云而、嚴餝其家候待者、明日入坐。故獻大御饗之時、其女矢河枝比賣命、令取大御酒盞而獻。於是天皇、任令取其大御酒盞而、御歌曰、

如此御合、生御子、宇遲能和紀自宇下五字以音郎子也。
≪英訳≫
At one time, when the Emperor journeyed to the land of Omi, he stood upon the fields of Ujino and gazed upon Kazuno. He composed a poem:
Upon the luxuriant fields of Kazuno,
I see the homes of countless thousands,
I see the many good points of the country.
Thus, when he arrived at the village of Kobata, he encountered a beautiful maiden on the road. The Emperor asked her, ‘Whose daughter are you?’ She replied, ‘I am the Princess Yagahaehime, the daughter of Wani no Hifuri no Ohomi.’ The Emperor said to her, ‘When I return tomorrow, I shall enter your home.’ Princess Yagahaehime then detailed the encounter to her father, who replied, ‘This is the Emperor. It is an honor beyond measure. Serve him well, my daughter.’ They adorned their home and awaited his arrival. The next day, he came and offered her a cup of sake. As he took the cup, he composed a poem:
What kind of crab is this?
It is the crab of distant Tsuruga.
Walking sideways, where are you going?
I dive into the water like a kai-tsuburi,
Breathing beneath the water, as I swim straight
To the sasanami that has highs and lows,
To the islets of Ichiji and Mi,
I encountered a maiden on the road of Kobata,
Her back was as round as a shield,
Her teeth were aligned like chestnuts or water caltrops.
The soil of the rounded Wani Slope of Ichi’i,
The topsoil is red in color,
The bottom soil is deep black,
The central soil within,
When touched by direct flame,
Draws on eyebrows darkly,
The woman I met in encounter,
Thus I saw her in the past,
Thus I saw her in the past,
More than I could ever imagine.
This is an addition.
Thus, he married and gave birth to a son named Wakiiratsuko of Uji.
≪この英文の和訳≫
ある時、天皇陛下が近江の国へ行幸された際、宇治野の上に立ち、葛野（かずの）をご覧になり、詠み歌を作られました。
茂っている葛野を見ると、無数の富みに満ち栄えた家々が見えます。国内の優れた箇所が見受けられます。
そして、木幡の村にお越しになられた際、美しい乙女にお会いになりました。その乙女に「あなたは誰のお子様か」とお尋ねになると、乙女は「ワニノヒフリのオホミの女のミヤヌシヤガハエ姫でございます」とお答えしました。天皇陛下は乙女に向かって「明日戻る際には、あなたの家にお伺いしましょう」とおっしゃいました。
そこで、ヤガハエ姫は父に事情を詳しくお話ししました。その結果、父は「これは天皇陛下がお見えになることです。重大なことでございますので、我が子よ、ご奉仕申し上げなさい」と仰い、家を華やかに飾り、お待ちいたしました。そして、翌日、天皇陛下がお見えになりました。
その際に、美食をお供えする際、ヤガハエ姫に酒盞（さかずき）を差し出し、献じました。天皇陛下は酒盞を手に取りながら歌を詠まれました。
この蟹はどこの蟹でしょうか。
遠くの敦賀の蟹です。
横歩きで、どこへ向かうのでしょう。
岩戸島や三島へと、
カイツブリのように水に潜り息をつくので、
高低のあるササナミへの道を、
まっすぐに渡りますと、
木幡の道で出会った乙女、
後ろ姿は楯のようです。
歯並びは栗や菱の実のようです。
いちいの丸邇坂の土は、
上の土は赤色がかっており、
底の土は真っ黒ですので、
その中間の土を、
直火に当てずに、
濃く描いた眉毛で飾っています。
私がお会いした女性は、
このように昔、私がお目にかかったお方であり、
あのように昔、私がお目にかかったお方であり、
私の予想以上に向かっていることを、
付け足させていただきます。
こうして、結婚され、生まれた子はウヂの若郎子（わきいらつこ）という名前でございました。
