故、天皇崩之後、大雀命者、從天皇之命、以天下讓宇遲能和紀郎子。於是、大山守命者、違天皇之命、猶欲獲天下、有殺其弟皇子之情、竊設兵將攻。爾大雀命、聞其兄備兵、卽遣使者、令告宇遲能和紀郎子。故聞驚、以兵伏河邊、亦其山之上、張絁垣立帷幕、詐以舍人爲王、露坐吳床、百官恭敬往來之狀、既如王子之坐所而、更爲其兄王渡河之時、具餝船檝者、舂佐那此二字以音葛之根、取其汁滑而、塗其船中之簀椅、設蹈應仆而、其王子者、服布衣褌、既爲賤人之形、執檝立船。
於是、其兄王、隱伏兵士、衣中服鎧、到於河邊、將乘船時、望其嚴餝之處、以爲弟王坐其吳床、都不知執檝而立船、卽問其執檝者曰「傳聞茲山有忿怒之大猪、吾欲取其猪。若獲其猪乎。」爾執檝者、答曰「不能也。」亦問曰「何由。」答曰「時時也往往也、雖爲取而不得。是以白不能也。」

Thus, after the Emperor’s passing, Ōhosazaki no Mikoto obediently yielded control of the realm to Uji no Wakairatsuko, according to the Emperor’s wishes. However, Ōhoyamamori no Miko defied the Emperor’s orders and sought to seize control of the realm for himself. He harbored intentions of killing his younger brother and gathered soldiers, intending to attack. Upon hearing of this, Ōhosazaki no Mikoto sent messengers to inform Uji no Wakainatsuko. Consequently, he concealed his soldiers along the riverside and erected tents upon the mountains. He set up curtains and deceitfully had servants impersonate royalty, with officials paying respect, creating an appearance as if the king himself were present. Additionally, in preparation for the elder brother Prince’s crossing of the river, they adorned boats with oars, and they prepared a slippery substance from the root of the vine called kazura, applying it to bamboo mats in the boat so that when stepped upon, they would slip and fall. Wakainatsuko, the young lord personally donned simple attire, adopting the guise of a commoner, taking an oar in hand and standing.
Here, the elder Prince, concealing his soldiers and wearing armor beneath his clothes, arrived at the riverside with the intention of boarding a boat. Observing the grandly adorned location, he presumed it to be where his younger brother was seated and, without realizing his younger brother was standing in the boat with an oar, he approached the person holding the oar and asked, “It is said that an enraged giant boar resides on this mountain. I intend to capture that boar, but do you think I can succeed?” The person holding the oar replied, “I’m afraid you won’t be able to.” When asked why, the person responded, “Many have tried to capture it but have failed. That’s why I believe you won’t be able to capture it.”
≪この英文の和訳≫
こうして、天皇がお崩(かくれ)になった後、オオサザキの命(みこと)は天皇の仰せにより、天下をウジの若郎子(わかいらつこ)に譲ることとなりました。しかしながら、大山守(おおやまもり)の皇子は天皇の命に逆らい、天下を手に入れようとしました。弟の皇子を殺そうとする意図を持って、兵士を集め、攻撃しようとしました。この情報を聞いたオオサザキ命(みこと)は、使者を派遣してそのことを伝えました。その結果、ウジの若郎子は兵士たちを川沿いに隠し、山の上に天幕(テント)建て幕を張り従者を王として振る舞わせ、百官が敬意を払い行き来し、まるで王自身がいらっしゃるかのような様子にしました。さらに、王が川を渡る際の準備として、船には漕ぎ手を備え、また、蔓草「葛」の根を臼で撞(つい)ヌルヌルする汁を採り、竹の簀(すのこ)に塗りました。これにより、踏むと滑りやすくなり、転倒するようになっていました。若郎子は自ら質素な服を着用し、賤しい姿に身を包み、棹(さお)を手に取り、立っていました。
このような状況下で、兄の皇子は兵士たちを隠し、服の下に鎧を身につけ、川沿いに到着し、船に乗ろうとしました。華やかに飾られたところを見て、弟の皇子が座っていると思い込み、弟が棹(さお)を持って立っていることに気づかず、その漕ぎ手に近づいて尋ねました。「この山には怒り狂った大きな猪が住んでいると聞いている。その猪を捕まえようと思うが、私にできるだろうか？」漕ぎ手の者は答えました。「恐れ入りますが、おそらく難しいかと思います」。なぜかと尋ねられると、漕ぎ手の者は「多くの人々が捕まえようと試みましたが、成功していないようです。そのため、お獲りになるのは難しいかと存じます」と答えました。
