この動画はThe Brothers Fourが196１年､ＴＶに出演した時のものです｡ちなみに、ﾏｰｸさんはﾃﾅｰﾊﾞﾝｼﾞｮｰ､ﾃﾞｨｯｸさんは４弦ｷﾞﾀｰを演奏していますがﾃﾞｨｯｸさんの手はほとんど動いていませんね。1960年､ｱﾙﾊﾞﾑ ”The Brothers Four”にこの曲を収録しています。そもそも、Eddystone Lightとは英国のﾚｰﾑ岬､南にある危険なｴﾃﾞｨｽﾄｰﾝ岩礁にあるEddystone（ｴﾃﾞｨｽﾄｰﾝ）灯台の灯りのことです。この歌はBurl Ives（ﾊﾞｰﾙ･ｱｲﾌﾞｽ）によって1953年､ｱﾙﾊﾞﾑ”Ballads & Folk Songs (Volume 1)” で紹介されて、ﾌｫｰｸ･ｿﾝｸﾞ･ﾘﾊﾞｲﾊﾞﾙ期に広く知られました。起源は､19世紀中頃に発表されたﾐｭｰｼﾞｯｸﾎｰﾙ･ｿﾝｸﾞからと言われています。ﾐｭｰｼﾞｯｸﾎｰﾙとは当時、英国で盛んに行われた音楽だけでなくお笑いや 芝居など大衆芸能，またそれを上演する場所で今で言うﾗｲﾌﾞﾊｳｽのようなものです。灯台守と彼の人魚の奥様との物語を歌っています。そして､歌詞の中でtrimming （ﾄﾘﾐﾝｸﾞ）は、ﾛｳｿｸまたはﾗﾝﾀﾝの手入れをすること､the phosphorous（ﾌｫｽﾌｫﾗｽ）ﾘﾝのことで灯火の燃料となります。

なお､The Weaversは1959年､ｱﾙﾊﾞﾑ”Travelling On With The Weavers”､The Clancy Brothersは1988年､ｱﾙﾊﾞﾑ"Tunes 'N' Tales Of Ireland"､Peter, Paul＆Maryは1993年､ｱﾙﾊﾞﾑ”Peter, Paul & Mommy, Too”に曲を収録しました。また、The Seekersは1995年 (5枚組).CDｱﾙﾊﾞﾑ"The Seekers Complete"をﾘﾘｰｽ、1963年にＬｉｖｅ録音、未発表であったこの曲を収録しました。

「私の子供たちは3人になったのですか？」
私の母は私に尋ねた。
1人は話す魚として展示された
もう1人は擦り皿に添えられていた。

それから、ﾘﾝは彼女の海草の髪の中に飛び火した。
私が再び見ると、私は母がそこにいなかった
夜の声が聞こえてきた
