「Danny Boy」は、ｱｲﾙﾗﾝﾄﾞの民謡で、「ﾛﾝﾄﾞﾝﾃﾞﾘｰの歌」として知られる旋律に歌詞を付けたものです。この旋律は「Danny Boy」のほかにも数多くの歌詞で歌われるこの歌詞はｲﾝｸﾞﾗﾝﾄﾞ弁護士Frederick Weatherly（ﾌﾚﾃﾞﾘｯｸ・ｳｪｻﾞﾘｰ）の作で,元々は別の曲のために1910年に作られた詞です。米国にいる義理の姉妹から1912年に「ﾛﾝﾄﾞﾝﾃﾞﾘｰの歌」の楽譜を送られると、彼は翌1913年にその詞をこのﾒﾛﾃﾞｨｰに合うように修正し発表しました。中学生の時、Harry Belafonteを聞き初めて覚えた英語の歌です。
