トレーニングの説明
それでは、早速トレーニングの説明をしますね。今日は、下記の２３個の前置詞を完璧に覚えるための音声を用意しています。

これらを以下の順番で進めて行って下さい。
①マスターしたい前置詞の説明を見る：まず、それぞれの前置詞の使い方のイメージを簡潔にお話しています。これを読むことによって全体像が分かります。
②用意した音声を聞く：次に、それぞれの前置詞を使う動詞を選んで作った英文の音声を用意しています。この音声は、まず、単語を発音してから英文を読み、その後に、英文の日本語訳を言うという形で収録しています。単語だけで覚えるのではなく、文を一緒に覚えるようにしましょう。※スマートフォンの方は、お手数ですがPCからご覧ください。
③音声をリピーティングする：余裕があれば、音声に収録している英文を自分でもリピーティングしながら聞くようにしてみて下さい。耳で聞くだけでなく、口を一緒に動かすことによって、より記憶に定着するようになります。
１．OUT
outのイメージは、「内から外」です。例えば、 watch out / look out は、「気をつける」という意味ですが、これは、視界から外れたところ ( out ) に、目を向けるということで、「用心する」という意味合いになるからです。
また、あなたが「物事の内側にいるのか？」「それとも外側から観察しているのか？」という立ち位置によって、「出て行った」「出て来た」というように意味が異なります。

２．UP
upのイメージは「上方」です。モノが上へと物理的に移動したり、位置を意味します。 また、モノ以外にも、例えば気分上々 I’m feeling up. のように気分が上がるというような抽象的なものにも使います。
また、遠くにあるものが近付いてくるにつれて、初めは小さかったものが、大きくなってくるというように「出現」という意味合いもあります。また、容器の中の水が増えて「目盛りが上がる」と言うイメージと、また、目盛りが限界点まで達するというイメージから、行為が「完了」するという意味合いが生まれます。

３．FOR
forのイメージは、前方に向かう「方向」です。前方にあるものが、目指している目標の場合には、「～のために」という意味になります。また、その目標は行動を引き起こす源でもあるので、「～が原因で」という意味が生まれます。
さらに、その目標のために、前もって準備をすることから、「～に備えて」という意味合いもあります。最後に、目標を実現するためには、何らかの行動が必要です。なので、そうした行動と「交換」するという意味も含みます。

４．ON
onのイメージは「接触」です。つまり、onは物の表面に接しているという意味合いがあります。ですので、普通onと言えば、「上」を連想しますが、on the wallのように、「上」以外でも接触していれば使われます。
また、I have some cash on me のように「所持」という意味合いも持っていますし、専門的な話題をしている場合、「～に関して」というように「関連」を意味します。また、Turn on the light のように、「活動」の意味合いも含みます。

５．DOWN
downのイメージは「下方」です。UPと同じように物理的なモノだけではなく、I’m feeling down「落ち込んでいる」というように、気分などの抽象的な物にも使います。
また、容器の水が減って、目盛りが少なくなる「減少」、そして、目盛りがゼロになることから「終了」という意味合いも持ちます。さらに、空中を漂っていたものが地面について「安定」するという意味合いも持ち合わせています。

６．ABOUT
aboutのイメージは、「周辺」です。従って、中心ではないももの、その周りにあるということから、「大体」という使い方ができます。また、同じ理由で「～について」という「関連」を表します。
さらに、中心から見ると、その周辺にあるものが散らばって見えることから「分散」という意味合いを持ちます。

７．OF
ofのイメージは「分離」です。つまり、ある物の一部分が飛び出して本体から離れるという意味合いがあります。そこから、「出所」という意味を持つようになりました。
さらに、物事には出発点があって結果が出るということから、「原因」という使い方もされるようになりました。また、「原因」というイメージから「密接な関連」も表すようになりました。

８．IN
inのイメージは「内包」です。これは、ある空間の「中」を表しています。例えば、play in the houseや、get in the car などが典型的な使用例です。
しかし、inを使う際は、上下左右の全てが覆われている必要はありません。例えば、a bird in the garden のように、自分が意識している範囲の「中」である場合に、inが使われます。例えば、飛行機が庭の上空１万メートルのところを飛んでいる場合は、an airplain in the garden とは言いませんよね。

音声を聞く：
offのイメージは、「離脱」です。例えば、a button came off my shirt.「ボタンがシャツから取れた」が代表的な使用例です。
つまり、offには、「接触」を意味するonと反対の意味があると考えると分かりやすいと思います。また、turn offのように電線の接触点が離れることによって、循環していたものが遮断されるという「停止」を意味することもあります。

１０．TO
toのイメージは、対象に向かう矢印です。そこから、「方向」や、その方向が指し示す「対象」も表すようになりました。さらに、toは、forと違って、既に対象に「到達」しているという意味合いが強いです。
例えば、look to the kidは、「子供に目を向ける」ですが、look for the kidは、「子供を探している」ということからイメージすると分かりやすいでしょう。また、toには、到達点に「接触」するという意味があり、到達点に接触すると、それ以上先はないことから、「限界」を意味する「～まで」という使い方に発展します。

１１．OVER
OVERのイメージは、対象を「上から回り込む」です。例えば、「～を超えて」というように「超過」という意味を持ちます。
乗り越える対象を、何らかの障害や出来事と捉えた場合、「克服」を意味し、そこから何かを成し遂げた場合は、「完了」を意味します。最後に、「回転」や「反復」というイメージも持ちます。例えば、Do it over 「もう一回やって」というような表現がこれに当てはまります。

１２．WITH
WITHのイメージは、「同伴」です。with you「あなたと一緒に」を思い浮かべると分かりやすいですね。また、「一緒に」という意味から、「（道具）を携帯して」という使い方もできます。そこから、「道具を使って」という意味も生まれました。
さらに、withは語源的には、against（～に対して）と同じ意味を持っていました。そこから、fight with A「Aと戦う」というような使い方も生まれたのです。

１３．INTO
INTOのイメージは、「内部へ」です。inとtoが合体したことから、in（中）のto（方へ）と思い浮かべて下さい。また、内部に入り込んで行く様子から、「深く、詳細に」という意味も持つようになりました。
例えば、I ran in the gymは、「ジムの中で走った」ですが、I ran into the gym は、「ジムの中に走って入って行った」という意味になります。このように、intoは、行動から生まれる「変化や結果」を重視しています。

１４．FROM
FROMのイメージは、物事の「起点」「出発点」です。From Japanは、「日本から」という意味ですよね。これは物理的な移動だけではなく、物事の因果関係としての「原因」を表すこともできます。例えば、judge from A「Aから判断する」というような使い方がこれにあたります。
他に、間違えやすいものの例として、made of と made from があります。前者は、The desk is made of wood のように、机の材料という意味を持ちますが、後者は、Paper is made from wood のように、完成品が原材料から、ほど遠い形に変化する場合に使います。

１５．THROUGH
THROUGHのイメージは「通過」です。トンネルの中をくぐり抜けて行くような意味ですね。これは、モノだけに限らず使うことができます。
例えば、何かを達成する手段として、人や物を経由した場合は、「手段」を表します。I heard of you through Taro などが用例です。

AROUNDのイメージは、「周囲」です。aboutが単に中心の近くを表すのに対して、aroundは、円形になって中心を取り囲んでいる様子があります。
例えば、around the earth とは言いますが、about the earthとは言いませんよね。また、friend around him は使いますが、friends about himとは言いません。
このAROUNDの使い方を、音声を聞きながら、下記の動詞と一緒に覚えましょう。

１７．AT
ATのイメージは「一点」です。場所であれば、at the store のような「地点」を表しますし、時間であれば、 at noon のような「時点」になります。
例えば、Taro is at the departmentと、Taro is in the departmentのような使い方がありますが、前者は話し手がデパートから遠くは慣れていて、そのデパートが点として見えていることを表します。一方、話し手がデパートのすぐ近くに居る場合は、inを使います。

これを、もし、Taro ran to the dogs, but stopped halfwayとすると間違いになります。なぜなら、「to」は到達の意味を持つので、太郎は既に犬のもとまで到達しているのに、途中で止まったと言うと、不自然になるからです。

例えば、I ran in the gymは、「ジムの中で走った」ですが、I ran into the gym は、「ジムの中に走って入って行った」という意味になります。このように、intoは、行動から生まれる「変化や結果」を重視しています。

１４．FROM
FROMのイメージは、物事の「起点」「出発点」です。From Japanは、「日本から」という意味ですよね。これは物理的な移動だけではなく、物事の因果関係としての「原因」を表すこともできます。例えば、judge from A「Aから判断する」というような使い方がこれにあたります。
他に、間違えやすいものの例として、made of と made from があります。前者は、The desk is made of wood のように、机の材料という意味を持ちますが、後者は、Paper is made from wood のように、完成品が原材料から、ほど遠い形に変化する場合に使います。

１５．THROUGH
THROUGHのイメージは「通過」です。トンネルの中をくぐり抜けて行くような意味ですね。これは、モノだけに限らず使うことができます。
例えば、何かを達成する手段として、人や物を経由した場合は、「手段」を表します。I heard of you through Taro などが用例です。

１６．AROUND
AROUNDのイメージは、「周囲」です。aboutが単に中心の近くを表すのに対して、aroundは、円形になって中心を取り囲んでいる様子があります。
例えば、around the earth とは言いますが、about the earthとは言いませんよね。また、friend around him は使いますが、friends about himとは言いません。

１７．AT
ATのイメージは「一点」です。場所であれば、at the store のような「地点」を表しますし、時間であれば、 at noon のような「時点」になります。
例えば、Taro is at the departmentと、Taro is in the departmentのような使い方がありますが、前者は話し手がデパートから遠くは慣れていて、そのデパートが点として見えていることを表します。一方、話し手がデパートのすぐ近くに居る場合は、inを使います。

１８．ACROSS
ACROSSのイメージは「横断」です。例えば、She walks across the street.「彼女はその通りを横切って歩く」などが代表的な活用例です。注意点として、acrossは、平面のものしか横断できないので、wallやfenceのような高さのある物に対しては使いません。
また、ACROSSは、物理的な移動だけではなく、「視線の移動」も表します。例えば、She lives across the street「彼女は通りの向こうに住んでいる」は、彼女は移動していませんが、話し手の視線が移動していることが分かります。

１９．BY
BYのイメージは「近接」です。これは、漠然とした近さを表しているので、具体的な数値で表すものではありません。例えば、finish the homework by 7:00は、「７時（に近い時間）までに宿題を終わらせなさい」という意味になります。
もう一つは、「媒介」という意味があります。例えば、by car 「車で」のように「手段・方法」を表す使い方はなじみのある表現だと思います。

２０．ALONG
ALONGのイメージは「沿って」です。例えば、There are some nice restaurants along the street.「この通り沿いには、良いレストランがいくつかある」などがその典型です。

２１．UPON
UPONのイメージは「（上昇してから）接触」です。

２２．TOWARD
TOWARDのイメージは「方角」です。例えば、Taro ran toward the dogs, but stopped halfway.「太郎は、犬に向かって歩いて行ったが、途中で止まった」というような使い方をします。
これを、もし、Taro ran to the dogs, but stopped halfwayとすると間違いになります。なぜなら、「to」は到達の意味を持つので、太郎は既に犬のもとまで到達しているのに、途中で止まったと言うと、不自然になるからです。

２３．WITHIN
WITHINのイメージは、ある空間の「中」を表します。
例えば、in an hourは、「一時間で」という意味になりますが、within an hour とすると、「一時間以内で」という意味を持つようになります。
