オーストラリアでビッグ4に対する議会の調査が開始（economiaより）

Australian parliamentary inquiries into Big Four opened

オーストラリアで、ビッグ4事務所に対する議会の調査が新たに2件開始されたという記事。

PwC, Deloitte, EY and KPMG face two new parliamentary inquiries in Australia

1つめは、企業監査の品質、監督、市場、ビッグ4事務所内の利益相反、監督者のパフォーマンスなどについて、幅広い調査を行うものです。オーストラリア議会の共同委員会で実施され、来年3月に完了する予定です。（英国の監査改革の影響でしょうか。）

The first is a “broad-ranging” inquiry looking at the quality, regulation and market for corporate audits; conflicts of interest within the Big Four firms; and the performance of regulators.

It is being led by Australian parliament’s joint committee on corporations and financial services and is due to be completed in March.

2つめは、政府の民営化プログラムにおける、ビッグ4を含む、外部業者やコンサルタントの利用の範囲について調べるものです。

The second is centred on the extent of use of contractors and consultants – including the Big Four – for government privatisation programs.

これらとは別に、国防省のEYとの契約（$2.6m）への調査も開始されるそうです。元国防大臣がEYに雇用されたことが問題となっています。

In addition, a third probe, according to a report in Australian Financial Review, is being opened into the country’s defence department awarding of a new $2.6m (£1.4m) contract to EY in the same week as the Senate voted to examine the firm’s hiring of former defence minister Christopher Pyne.

今のところ、日本におけるビッグ4の存在感は海外ほどではないので、日本の議会がビッグ4の活動に関心を持つことはなさそうですが．．．。（問題が生じるとしたら、カジノ合法化がらみでしょうか。）

議会ではありませんが、オーストラリアの競争消費者委員会という独立組織も、ビッグ4について調査したそうです。その結果が最近発表されましたが、調査を続けるべきという証拠は得られなかったそうです。

Earlier this year the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) closed its probe into anti-competitive behaviour among the Big Four.
