The Name of Jesus

Philippians 2:9 Therefore also God highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name,

Philippians 2:10 That in the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

the name of Jesus is wonderful, a life-giving name, a comforting name, a stregthening name. also, this exalted name of Jesus is for us to do many things:

1. to believe in

John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the authority to become children of God, to those who believe into His name,

we all must believe into the name of Jesus. we should not only say that we believe in the Lord Jesus, but also declare that we believe into the name of Jesus.

2. to be baptized into 

Acts 19:5 And when they heard this, they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.

To be baptized into the name of Jesus means to be baptized into His person. this is not a rituall or a ceremony, but an act of faith. 

3. to be saved

Acts 4:12 And there is salvation in no other, for neither is there another name under heaven given among men in which we must be saved.

the name of Jesus is a saving name, which has been given to us purposely that we may be saved. 

4. to be healed

Acts 3:6 But Peter said, Silver and gold I do not possess, but what I have, this I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene rise up and walk.

the name of Jesus is a healing name. we may call on the name of jesus for healing from any kind of sickness.

5. to be washed, sanctified, and justified

1 Corinthians 6:11 And these things were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.

6. to call upon

Romans 10:13 For “whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

1 Corinthians 1:2 To the church of God which is in Corinth, to those who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, the called saints, with all those who call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ in every place, who is theirs and ours:

to call upon is different from to pray. when we open our being from the deepest part to call upon the name of Jesus, we will taste Him and enjoy Him.

7. to pray 

John 16:24 Until now you have asked for nothing in My name; ask and you shall receive, that your joy may be made full.

in the name of Jesus, we will have a real burden to pray , and it is easy for us to have the assurance that our prayer has been heard and answered.

8. to be gathered into 

John 18:20 Jesus answered him, I have spoken openly to the world; I always taught in the synagogue and in the temple, where all the Jews come together, and I spoke nothing in secret.

whenever we come to a Christian meeting or gathering, we need to have the realisation that we are coming to be gathered into the name of Jesus. the gatherings will bring us deeply into the appreciation of the name of Jesus. I never realised this. I know I am coming to all the meetings, prayer meeting, YP meeting, or LD meeting, but my focus is on the "meetings". yes the meeting was really good, yes, everyone had a great time. but did we appreciate the name of Jesus in a deeper way? did we have the sense that we are being gathered into the name of Jesus?

9. to cast out demons

Acts 16:18 And she did this for many days. But Paul was greatly disturbed; and turning, he said to the spirit, I charge you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And it came out that very hour.

10. to preach

Acts 9:27 But Barnabas took hold of him and led him to the apostles, and he related to them how Saul had seen the Lord on the road, and that He had spoken to him, and how in Damascus he had spoken boldly in the name of Jesus.

Preaching in the Lord's name must be done in the Spirit, for the Spirit is the Person of the Lord and the reality of His name.

Why does God need a people today? 

God needs a people because He wants a house where He is the Father, and a kingdom where He is the King. The Lord needs His house and His kingdom in order to carry out His eternal economy. This is the reason God needs a return of His people from their captivity. God needs a house and a kingdom, and for this He needs the recovery.

Every believer has problems with the flesh and with the lust of the flesh. Do you know when the flesh is dealt with? It is dealt with only when Christ truly becomes our daily life supply. When Christ fills us and satisfies us, this satisfaction will cause our flesh to be put to death. In principle, this is the experience of every believer. After we enjoy the Lord at Elim, we discover that we still have a problem with the flesh and with the lust of the flesh. This problem is caused by hunger. Deep within, we are undernourished. We have a hunger that has not been satisfied. In our Christian experience we have not come to the place of experiencing Christ daily as our life supply to fill us and to satisfy us. However, when we daily enjoy Christ as our heavenly life supply, we are fully satisfied. At that time our flesh is subdued, and our lust is dealt with. Nevertheless, the flesh with its lust is not dealt with once for all. Whenever we are undernourished and are short of Christ, we shall become hungry again. This will cause the flesh and the lust to reappear and to become active once more.

We need to see that the Lord intends to bring all of us into His death and resurrection. Through His death and resurrection we may enjoy Him as our replacement. As we enjoy Christ as our replacement, He becomes us and we become one with Him. The result is that we become His reproduction, His duplication. This is the vision conveyed to us in the Gospel of Mark.

Life Study of Revelation message 20

Message Title: THE CRY OF THE MARTYRED SAINTS AND GOD’S ANSWER TO IT - SEALS FIVE AND SIX

in the last message it mentioned the first four seals, the four horses with their riders, which started at the time of the ascension of Christ, and will continue until the second coming of the Lord. 

here is the fifth seal, which is the cry of the martyrs throughout the ages. 

Revelation 6:9 And when He opened the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and because of the testimony which they had.

Revelation 6:10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Master, holy and true, will You not judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?

Revelation 6:11 And to each of them was given a white robe; and it was said to them that they should rest yet a little while, until also the number of their fellow slaves and their brothers who were about to be killed, even as they were, is completed.

all these martyrs were killed not because they did not something wrong, but because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. we should not have a concept that after we believe into the Lord, our way will be full of blue skies and flowers, with many blessings from the Lord. I always get reminded of hymn 720 "God has not promised skies always blue, flower-strewn pathways all our lives through." Rather, the Lord has already shown and warned us that we will face persecution and opposition. even when the Lord was here on the earth, He got rejected and mocked by people, even crucified by His own people. if the Lord has already faced that, why should we expect that our skies will be always blue? we need to be prepared for the coming sufferings or hardship, and we need to realize that the Lord has promised us that what we will face shall by no means surpass what the Lord did face. right now, the martyrs are waiting in the paradise, which is not the paradise in the heavens, but the paradise in the Hades, which is the comfort part for the saints to rest and wait until the time is fulfilled. on the night of the Lord's crucifixion, there were two robbers with Him. He said to one robber, that tonight you shall be with me in the paradise. that is also the place the Lord went for three days after His death. all the martyrs are right now waiting there, and they are praying, praying for the righteous judgement and avenger of the Master for them, on those evil and unrighteous people. 

and the sixth seal is the answer of God to the martyrs' cry in the fifth seal. the sixth seal marks the beginning of the great tribulation. And it is also the 

warning to all those who dwell on the earth. we will see later that no matter how much warning God gives to the inhabitants on earth, one sentence keeps repeating, they still blasphemed God and did not repent. God's heart in sending these supernatural calamities is to warn people to repent. but if the heart is hardened, they would not repent. may our heart not be hardened, but be kept soft and open toward God. 

Life Study of Revelation message 19

Message Title: WORLD HISTORY FROM CHRIST’S ASCENSION TO THE END OF THIS AGE SEALS ONE THROUGH FOUR

in chapter 6 of the book of Revelation, we have the first six seals of the seven seals. among these six seals, the first four seals constitute the world history, after the ascension of Christ. 

1. the first seal: the white horse and its rider, which signifies the gospel preaching. the gospel we preach now is the glorious and victorious gospel. and this gospel has been prevailing throughout the whole earth, conquering and to conquer. this shows us that, we should not be ashamed of the gospel. rather, we should feel glorious that we are participating the gospel preaching in this age of grace, before the gate of grace is closed. we only have short time to preach the gospel of glory and lead people to salvation, because as soon as the end comes and the gate of grace is closed, there will be no longer gospel preaching. so may we all grasp the limited opportunities to proclaim the good news to our family, our friends, and the people around us. 

2. the red horse and its rider: war, with the shedding of the blood

3. the the black horse and its rider: famine, which causes the starving people to have black facade.

4. the pale horse and its rider: death and Hades. oh i still remember, the first time I read through the book of Revelation. when i read here, I was so scared of the picture of the pale horse, saying that death comes and followed by the Hades. that very night, I had a nightmare haha. also, if you are like me, a big fan of Agatha Christie, you will remember that she has a novel named "the Pale Horse", which talks about the "so-called" witch who can kill people with her witchery. and at the beginning of the novel, one priest was killed on his way home, after he listened to the secret of a lady before her death. anyway, my point is not here.

i just want to say, this is indeed a picture of the world history. there have been wars among different countries. when there is war, there surely comes famine and death. but we do not lose heart!!! because, no matter what is happening in the world, the gospel has always been prevailing, keeping spreading to the whole inhabited earth. if we join ourselves to this white horse and its rider, we are one with the Lord, in gospel preaching, not only to men, but also to all creatures. this means we are writing the divine history of God in our human history.
