ヒットした翌年、1965年は、
アメリカが
北ベトナムへの空爆を開始した年であり、
過激な内容がラジオ局で放送禁止になったことで逆に注目を集め、
全米1位になっています。
この曲は、
他愛の無い恋の歌などが主流だった当時の音楽業界に衝撃を与え、
過激な歌詞のさきがけともなったと言います

この曲を取り上げています。

って感覚、当てはまり過ぎです。
