It was lovely sunny day this afternoon. Hmm, it is new that we, Yoshi and I get lucky about weather when we have an event like Ji chin sai we did today.
Ji chin sai, for your information, is one of the Shinto ceremonies you want to have when you have your new home built. A shinto priest pray for safety of carpenters and new house itself in the future by purifying the ground.
They create a holy place by making a square by bumboo wood and rope with sacred paper ornaments. In the square set up a small altar and put bottles of Sake and vegitables and a fish as offerings for Ground God.
The priest's chant resonate in white birch woods in harmony with breeze and light penetrating through leaves. It felt like his voice purified not only the ground but also my heart.
I heard that only about 50 - 60 % of those who build a new house wish to have Ji Chin Sai these days. The ancient ceremony is getting obsolete. People tend not to have it and save time and money.
For us, it was absolutely worth having it! Surprisingly enough, even Yoshi, who is quite a realist, thinks so too. Goodness!
During the ceremony there was an action that Yoshi hoed a small sand mound three times calling out "Ei, Ei, Ei." He sounded a kind of funny I had a hard time to stop myself from laughing out.
I have teased him many times already calling "Ei, Ei, Ei!" in front of him!
