『日本書紀』 国産み 5
次生鳥磐櫲樟橡船、輙以此船載蛭兒、順流放棄。次生火神軻遇突智、時伊弉冉尊、爲軻遇突智、所焦而終矣。其且終之間、臥生土神埴山姬及水神罔象女。卽軻遇突智、娶埴山姬、生稚産靈、此神頭上生蠶與桑、臍中生五穀。罔象、此云美都波。
一書曰、伊弉冉尊、生火産靈時、爲子所焦而神退矣、亦云神避。其且神退之時、則生水神罔象女及土神埴山姬、又生天吉葛。天吉葛、此云阿摩能與佐圖羅、一云與曾豆羅。
一書曰、伊弉冉尊、且生火神軻遇突智之時、悶熱懊惱。因爲吐、此化爲神、名曰金山彥。次小便、化爲神、名曰罔象女。次大便、化爲神、名曰埴山媛。
一書曰、伊弉冉尊、生火神時、被灼而神退去矣。故葬於紀伊國熊野之有馬村焉。土俗、祭此神之魂者、花時亦以花祭、又用鼓吹幡旗歌舞而祭矣。
≪英訳≫
Next, birds and camphor trees were born. They used these camphor tree boats to carry leeches, which they released downstream. Then, the fire deity Kagu-tsuchi was born, and at that time, the noble woman Izanami died while giving birth to Kagu-tsuchi. While Izanami lay dying, the earth deity Haniyasu-hime and the water deity Waka-tsuchi-no-kami were born. Kagu-tsuchi married Haniyasu-hime and gave birth to a deity, who had silk and mulberry trees on their head and the five grains in their navel. Waka-tsuchi, also known as Motozume-hime.
One account says that when Izanami was giving birth to the fire deity, she was burnt, and the deity withdrew. In this moment of retreat, the water deity Waka-tsuchi-no-kami and the earth deity Haniyasu-hime were born, as well as the deity Amatsu-kakami. Amatsu-kakami is also known as Amano-ninigi and Sotsu-ninigi.
Another account says that when Izanami was giving birth to the fire deity Kagu-tsuchi, she suffered from intense heat and distress. She vomited, and from this, a deity named Kanayamahiko was born. Then, she urinated, and the deity Waka-tsuchi-no-kami was born. Finally, when she defecated, the deity Haniyasu-hime was born.
Yet another account says that when Izanami gave birth to the fire deity, she was burnt and withdrew as a deity. Consequently, she was buried in the village of Aramamura in Kii Province. The local custom is to offer flowers to the spirit of this deity during the flowering season. They also make offerings with music, flags, and dancing.
≪この英文の和訳≫
その後、鳥と樟樹(くすのき)が生まれました。彼らはこの樟樹の船を使ってヒルを乗せ、それを下流に放しました。そして、火の神である軻遇突智(かぐつち)が生まれました。伊弉冉尊(いざなみのみこと)が軻遇突智を生む時亡くなりました。伊弉冉尊が亡くなる間際、土の神である埴山姫(はにやすひめ)と水の神である罔象女(みずはのめ)が生まれました。軻遇突智は埴山姫と結婚し、神が頭に繭と桑を持ち、へその中に五穀を持つようになりました。罔象女は別名、美都波(みつは)とも呼ばれます。
〔一書に曰く〕ある書によれば、いざなみ尊が火の神を生むとき、彼女は灼かれ、その神が退いたとされます。その退いた瞬間に水の神である罔象女と土の神である埴山媛が生まれ、さらに神である天吉葛(てんよしくず)も生まれました。天吉葛は別名、阿摩能(あまのね)と佐圖羅(さとろ)、または曾豆羅(そとろ)とも呼ばれます。
〔一書に曰く〕別の書によれば、いざなみ尊が火の神を生むとき、彼女は激しい熱と苦しみに襲われました。それにより、吐いた結果、金山彦という神が生まれ、次に小便をし、罔象女という神が生まれました。そして最後に大便をすると、埴山媛という神が生まれました。
さらに〔一書に曰く〕別の書によれば、いざなみ尊が火の神を生む際、彼女は灼かれ、その神が退いたとされ、彼女は紀伊国の有馬村に葬られました。地元の習慣では、この神の霊に花を捧げるのは花の季節に行います。また、音楽、旗、踊りを伴う儀式も行います。
