「 Black Girl 」は、「 In the Pines 」と「 Where Did You Sleep Night Last？ 」とも呼ばれています。「In the Pines」と「The Longest Train」の2曲が由来で1870年代に生まれました。著者は不明で､ﾃﾈｼｰ州東部とｹﾝﾀｯｷｰ州､ ﾉｰｽｶﾛﾗｲﾅ州西部とｼﾞｮｰｼﾞｱ州北部の隣接するｱﾊﾟﾗﾁｱ地方のﾄﾗﾃﾞｨｼｮﾅﾙ･ﾌｫｰｸ･ｿﾝｸﾞです。歌のﾊﾞｰｼﾞｮﾝは多くのｼﾞｬﾝﾙの様々なﾐｭｼﾞｼｬﾝによって録音されています。1944年のLeadbelly（ﾚｯﾄﾞﾍﾞﾘｰ）によるﾌｫｰｸ･ﾊﾞｰｼﾞｮﾝと1952年のBill Monroe And The Bluegrass Boysによるﾌﾞﾙｰｸﾞﾗｽ･ﾊﾞｰｼﾞｮﾝの非常に異なるﾊﾞｰｼﾞｮﾝが収録され、その後の曲のﾙｰﾂとなっています。
