登山口から残雪が多く、少し心配だったが、登るにつれて残雪は一部だけになった。噴煙が上がっている近くを歩くこともあった。ロープウェイで頂上付近まできた観光客もいて、山頂は結構いっぱいだった。帰りには那須温泉郷の鹿の湯に入った。

遠目にはなだらかな山景だが、距離もあるのでなかなか大変だった。多くの人とは逆に回ったので、登りはほとんど人には会わなかった。下山は急な鎖場が五ヶ所ほどあり、へっぴり腰で降りたが、誰にも見られることはなかった。
