1,Communication/The Jazz Composer's Orchestra (Fontana) 1LP
マイク・マントラーとカーラ・ブレイが主宰していたジャズ・コンポーザース・オーケストラ、良く知られるのは68年に自主制作した2枚組アルバム「The Jazz Composer's Orchestra」だと思いますが、今回入手のFontana盤は64年と65年録音を収めた最初のアルバムです。
二層三層の不協なアンサンブル/ドシャメシャ・リズムに乗ってメンバー各人が咆哮する様は如何にも60年代のフリー・ジャズ。B面いっぱいに25分に渡って繰り広げられる"Communications No. 5"は表れては消える不協和音たなびくテーマが耳を引き単調にならず/飽きさせず。ただ、上記68年盤で聴けたセシル・テイラー、ファラオ・サンダース、ラリー・コリエルのような天地をひっくり返すようなソロは無いですね。
