米PwC会長、警官による同事務所職員射殺事件を受けてコメント（economiaより）

PwC US chairman on the “unravelling of America”

今年9月に米国PwCの黒人のアソシエートが、ダラスの自宅で警官に射殺されるという事件があったそうです。その事件を含む同種の事件の発生を受けて、米国PwCの会長が職員向けのメールやテレビのインタビューで人種差別反対や、職場における人種的インクルージョンの大切さをうったえているという記事。

The chairman of PwC US was driven to raise awareness on racial inclusivity in the workplace following several high-profile shootings of minorities by police officers, including the killing of a PwC associate

Tim Ryan told CNN's Poppy Harlow in her podcast Boss Files that just days after he joined the firm as chairman in 2016, the US witnessed three similar shootings within three days.

He told Harlow that during that week he "started to see the unravelling, in my view, of America" and had decided something needed to be done.

“One of our biggest responsibilities is to take care of our people, and we have 50,000 people working at PwC.”

今年9月、Botham JeanというPwCの黒人アソシエート（26歳）が、ダラスの自宅でアメリカン・フットボールの試合をテレビ観戦しているときに、非番の警官（白人女性）が部屋を取り違え、強盗だと思って、彼を射殺したという事件がありました。

This September, Botham Jean, a black PwC associate was shot dead by an off-duty police officer while watching an American football match in his Dallas home. The officer mistook Jean’s apartment for their own and thought he was a burglar. Jean was 26 years old.

PwCの会長はこの事件のニュースを聞いて、事務所の職員にメールを出し、だれもがよりよき同僚、友人、味方になれるよう、マイノリティの人たちが日々経験していることを時間をかけて理解することを促したとのことです。

Ryan responded to the news by sending an email to the firm’s staff setting out its stand on the issue and encouraging them to “take time to understand the experiences our underrepresented minorities — and especially, in this situation, our black colleagues — experience in everyday life so that we can all be better co-workers, friends and allies.”

この殺人事件に関する現地報道。米国では殺人罪にmurder（謀殺）とmanslaughter（故殺）がありますが、そのどちらで起訴するのか、あるいは起訴しないのか、についてもめているようです。犯人は保釈されています。SNSへの投稿などから、人種差別的傾向・暴力的傾向があったのではないかとされているようです。
