英テスコ、不正会計で罰金180億円　当局と合意

英国の流通最大手テスコが、不正会計に関連して、１億2900万ポンド（約180億円）の罰金を払うという記事。そのほか、株主への賠償金として8500万ポンドを準備するそうです。

「テスコは当時、利益を実態より水増しして公表していた。罰金の支払いなどに備え、2018年２月期に２億3500万ポンドの特別損失を計上する。」

テスコの決算の作成、承認、監査に関わった、PwC（当時の監査人）やその他の会計専門家に対する捜査は続行中です。

The Financial Reporting Council (FRC's) investigation into the roles of PwC and various members of the accountancy profession involved in the preparation, approval and audit of Tesco’s accounts is still ongoing.

この会計スキャンダルが起きたのは2014年ですが、2015年には、監査人がPwCからデロイトに変更されました。その後、63億8千万ポンドもの税引前損失が計上されています。

In 2015, Tesco ended its long-standing audit relationship with PwC in favour of fellow Big Four firm Deloitte and later that year suffered a pre-tax loss of £6.38bn.

2014年にテスコは、2億5千万ポンドの利益水増しを公表、4人の幹部を停職処分にし、デロイトに調査を依頼しました。

A year earlier, Tesco suspended four senior members of staff and called in Deloitte to investigate after admitting that profits were overstated by £250m.

調査の結果、不正が行われていたのは、当初発表の6ヶ月間ではなく2年間にわたっていたこと、利益水増し額は2億6300万ポンドにもなることが明らかになりました。

The subsequent investigation found its accounting irregularities were worse than first feared. It found that Tesco had overstated its profits by £263m for at least two years, not six months as was previously thought, and by £13m more than the initial estimate.

利益水増し額に匹敵するような罰金（株主への賠償金積み立てを含む）が課されるわけで、非常に厳しい処分です。
