Message Title: the Triune God in Revelation
Revelation 1:4 John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace to you and peace from Him who is and who was and who is coming, and from the seven Spirits who are before His throne,
Revelation 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, the faithful Witness, the Firstborn of the dead, and the Ruler of the kings of the earth. To Him who loves us and has released us from our sins by His blood
in these two verses, "He who is and who was and who is coming" is God the Father; "the seven Spirits" is God the Spirit; "Jesus Christ" is God the Son.
1. the Almighty God
in the book of Revelation,God is not only Elohim, the mighty One, but the Almighty God.
a. the Lord: the owner of the universe
b. the Alpha and the Omega: the origination and the ending for the completion of His purpose.
Revelation 1:8 I am the Alpha and the Omega, says the Lord God, He who is and who was and who is coming, the Almighty.
c. who is, who was, and who is coming
this is the meaning of the name Jehovah, "I am that I am."
2. the Father
the Father is the source, the Lord, and He who is, who was and who is coming.
3. the Spirit
The seven Spirits of God are listed in the second place instead of the third. This reveals the importance of the intensified function of the sevenfold Spirit of God.
a. the Seven Spirits of God
In the book of Revelation, the age is the age of the Spirit, and in this age the Spirit has been intensified.The number seven here does not refer to seven different spirits but to one sevenfold Spirit. the seven Spirits are for God’s move on the earth. In substance and existence, God’s Spirit is one; in the intensified function and work of God’s operation, God’s Spirit is sevenfold.
b. the seven eyes of the Lamb
Revelation 5: 6 And I saw in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures and in the midst of the elders a Lamb standing as having just been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.
c. the seven lamps of fire before the throne of God
Revelation 4:5 And out of the throne come forth lightnings and voices and thunders. And there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God;
4. the Son
a. Jesus Christ
Jesus means Jehovah the Savior. Christ is the One anointed by God to carry out His economy.
b. the faithful Witness
He is God's witness. He testifies and expresses God.
c. the Firstborn of the dead
He is the first One resurrected from the dead. He is the new beginning in God's work.
d. the Ruler of the kings of the earth
e. the Son of God
f. the Son of Man
g. the First and the Last
h. the beginning and the end
i. the alpha and the omega
j. the living One
He became dead, and behold, He now lives forever.
k. the holy One
l. the true One
Revelation 3: 7 And to the messenger of the church in Philadelphia write: These things says the Holy One, the true One, the One who has the key of David, the One who opens and no one will shut, and shuts and no one opens:
m. the faithful One
Revelation 19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sits on it called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war.
N. the Amen
O. the origination of the creation of God
Revelation 3:14 And to the messenger of the church in Laodicea write: These things says the Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the beginning of the creation of God.
p. the root of David
Revelation 5: 5 And one of the elders said to me, Do not weep; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome so that He may open the scroll and its seven seals.
q. the offspring of David
Revelation 22:16 I Jesus have sent My angel to testify to you these things for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the bright morning star.
r. the Lion of the tribe of Judah
Revelation 5: 5 And one of the elders said to me, Do not weep; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome so that He may open the scroll and its seven seals.
s. the Lamb
Revelation 5: 6 And I saw in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures and in the midst of the elders a Lamb standing as having just been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.
t. & u . the King of kings; the Lord or lords
Revelation 19:16 And He has on His garment and on His thigh a name written, King Of KINGS And Lord Of LORDS.
v. the Word of God
Revelation 19:13 And He is clothed with a garment dipped in blood; and His name is called the Word of God.
As we come to the Bible, we must realize that He Himself is the Word of God.
w. the morning star
Revelation 22:16 I Jesus have sent My angel to testify to you these things for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the bright morning star.
His being the morning star is related to His watchful, waiting believers. To those who watch and wait for His coming back, the Lord will appear as the morning star.
x. the Lamp
Revelation 21:23 And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon that they should shine in it, for the glory of God illumined it, and its lamp is the Lamb.
y. the Husband
Christ is the Husband who takes God’s redeemed people as His wife.
z. the Another Angel
Revelation 18: 1 After these things I saw another Angel coming down out of heaven, having great authority; and the earth was illumined with His glory.
in the Old Testament, Christ appeared a few times as the Angel of God to take care of Israel people for the fulfillment of God's purpose. for example, in Exodus, He was the Angel of God. in Judges, He appeared to Samson's parents as the Angel of God.
