其臣服著紅紐青摺衣、故、水潦拂紅紐、青皆變紅色。爾口子臣之妹・口日賣、仕奉大后、故是口日賣歌曰、
夜麻志呂能 都都紀能美夜邇 母能麻袁須 阿賀勢能岐美波 那美多具麻志母
爾太后問其所由之時、答白「僕之兄、口子臣也。」
於是口子臣、亦其妹口比賣、及奴理能美、三人議而令奏天皇云「大后幸行所以者、奴理能美之所養虫、一度爲匐虫、一度爲鼓、一度爲飛鳥、有變三色之奇虫。看行此虫而入坐耳、更無異心。」如此奏時、天皇詔「然者吾思奇異、故欲見行。」自大宮上幸行、入坐奴理能美之家時、其奴理能美、己所養之三種虫、獻於大后。爾天皇、御立其大后所坐殿戸、歌曰、
都藝泥布 夜麻斯呂賣能 許久波母知 宇知斯意富泥 佐和佐和爾 那賀伊幣勢許曾 宇知和多須 夜賀波延那須 岐伊理麻韋久禮
此天皇與大后所歌之六歌者、志都歌之歌返也。
天皇戀八田若郎女、賜遣御歌。其歌曰、
夜多能 比登母登須宜波 古母多受 多知迦阿禮那牟 阿多良須賀波良 許登袁許曾 須宜波良登伊波米 阿多良須賀志賣
爾八田若郎女、答歌曰、
夜多能 比登母登須宜波 比登理袁理登母 意富岐彌斯 與斯登岐許佐婆 比登理袁理登母
故、爲八田若郎女之御名代、定八田部也。
≪英訳≫
His minister(Kuchiko no Omi) wore blue-dyed garments with red cords, so when the floodwaters touched the red cords, the blue color turned red. His minister’s younger sister, Kuchi-hime, who served the Empress, sang the following song:
"In the palace of Yamashiro’s Tsutsuki,
I see my elder brother,
And tears well up within me."
When the Empress asked about the reason, she replied, “That is my elder brother, Kuchi-no-omi.” Kuchi-no-omi, along with his sister Kuchi-hime and servant Nuri-no-mi, discussed and reported to the Emperor: “The reason for the Empress’s visit is due to a miraculous creature nurtured by Nuri-no-mi. It transforms into a crawling insect, then a shell, and finally into a flying bird, displaying three different colors. She has come to observe this creature and has no ulterior motives.” Upon hearing this, the Emperor responded, “I am curious about this marvel; I wish to witness it.” He visited Nuri-no-mi’s house and observed creature displaying three different colors, that Nuri-no-mi raised.
The Emperor stood at the door of the palace where the Empress was staying and sang this song:
"A woman in a mountain castle in the mountains
digging radishes with a hoe with a wooden handle,
And as you say, "I am like the thicket of trees
Like a thicket of trees in the distance
We came in a bustling crowd like the bushes of a tree"
These six songs sung by the Emperor and Empress are responses to the original songs of Shizu Uta lyrics.
The Emperor expressed his affection for Yata-no-WakaIratsume and sent her a song:
A single tall sedge of Yata,
Though without offspring, it will wither away.
Such a precious sedge it is.
Though called a sedge in words,
It’s a dear and pure woman.
In response, Yata-no-Waka Iratsume sang:
A single tall sedge of Yata,
Even if it stands alone,
If Your Majesty approves,
It will remain standing alone.
Therefore, as a representation of Yata no WakaIratsume, Yatabe was established.
≪この英文の和訳≫
彼の臣(クチコの臣)は、紺色の染め物に赤い紐を着けていましたので、水が赤い紐に触れると、青がすべて赤く変わりました。彼の妹である口比賣(クチヒメ)は、皇后に仕えておりましたため、次の歌を歌いました。
「山城の筒木(つつき)の宮で、
兄上を見ると、
涙がこぼれます」
皇后がその理由を尋ねられると「あれは私の兄の口子(クチコ)の臣です」と答えました。その後、口子臣とその妹の口比賣、そして奴理能美(ヌリノミ)が三人で協議し、天皇に申し述べました。「皇后がお越しになる理由は、奴理能美が飼っている虫があり、それは一度は匐(はう)虫になり、一度は殻になり、そして一度は飛ぶ鳥に変わる三色の珍しい虫です。この虫をご覧になるためにお越しになったのです。別に変った心はございません」と申されると、天皇は「それでは私も不思議に思うので、見に行こう」とおっしゃり、天皇は大宮からお越しになり、奴理能美(ヌリノミ)の家にお入りになりました。そこで、奴理能美は自身が飼っている三色に変わる虫を皇后に差し上ました。天皇は皇后のおいでになる御殿の戸の前に立ち、次の歌を歌いました。
山また山の山城の女性が、
柄のついた鍬で掘った大根、
そのようにざわざわとあなたがおっしゃるので、
見渡す限りの茂みの木々のように、
にぎやかにやってきました。
これら六首の歌は、天皇と皇后が歌い返された静歌(しずうた)です。
天皇は、八田(やた)の若郎女(わかいらつめ)に思いを寄せ、歌をお送りになりました歌は:
「ヤタの一本菅(いっぽんすげ)は、
子を持たずに荒れてしまうだろうが、
惜しい菅原(すがはら)だ。
言葉でこそ菅原というが、
惜しい清らかな女だ」
八田若郎女のお返しの歌は次の通りです。
「八田の一本菅(いっぽんすげ)は、ひとりで居ても、
陛下がお望みであれば、
ひとりで居ることも構いません」
故に、八田(やた)の若郎女(わかいらつめ)の代わりとして、八田部(やたベ)を定められまた。
