Dali Actually, there is an interesting idiom concerning beets, “beet red.” When a person is very embarrassed, his face turns red. An example of usage: When the wind blew up Cindy’s dress, and everybody saw the color of her underwear, she turned beet red! This means her face turned red from embarrassment. The beet is intensely red, so, like many idioms, it’s a kind of exaggeration.
ダリちゃん 実はね、ビーツに関連した面白いイディオムがあるんだ。beet redというんだ。とても恥ずかしい時、顔が赤くなるね。使用例。「風がシンディーのドレスを吹き上げてみんなが彼女の下着の色を見た時、彼女はビーツのように真っ赤になった！」。彼女の顔は恥ずかしくて赤くなったという意味。ビーツは強烈な赤。だから多くのイディオムがそうであるように一種の誇張。
Me But I think there is another situation in which a face turns red. It is when a person gets angry. So, can you say, “Your boss went beet red because you screwed up”?

Beets are far less popular than potatoes, sweet potatoes, or carrots in the US or Japan. Part of their unpopularity may be that they are less flexible as a cooking ingredient, have a distinctive earthy flavor, and stain everything red. It is interesting that despite this, the term “beet” is delightfully used as an idiom “beet red.”
