Samsung to go even more bezel-less with Galaxy S9 and S9+

2017-11-27 10:40:50 | Samsung Galaxy S8

Samsung had a pretty impressive first half this year with equally stodgy second half. Apart from the Galaxy Note 8, the company didn’t make any big announcements. However, if we tilt our focus to next year, we might be in for a really sweet treat. As per the latest leak from Sammobile, the next iteration in the Galaxy S lineup i.e. the S9 will sport an infinity display with a screen-to-body ratio of 90 percent. If you have no idea what that means, a screen-to-body ratio is basically the ratio of the display surface to the whole device frame. The Galaxy S8 diy waterproof phone case , with the beautiful screen it has, sports a screen-to-body ratio of 83.6 percent. iPhone X, on the other hand, comes with an 82.9 percent screen-to-body ratio.

Samsung to go even more bezel-less with Galaxy S9 and S9+

In order to go this way, Samsung will have to trim down the top and bottom bezels even more which might be not that easy given a lot of internals such as the sensors, front facing camera, earpiece, display drivers etc. are packed in these tiny bezels. Now, this comes from a reliable source but should be still taken with a grain of salt as it is still a rumour. If at all this comes out to be true, I wish Samsung brings ‘below the display’ fingerprint scanner technology on the Galaxy S9. That would really make it well ahead of all the major Android flagships. But we are talking about 2018, which means if Samsung brings it, a lot of others will as well. So let’s hope ‘below the display’ fingerprint scanner is 2018 flagship trend.

Apart from that, we have already seen a bunch of other rumours floating around on the internet in this past week. The most interesting of them all is coming from VentureBeat claiming that the South Korean giant might go ahead and showcase the Galaxy S9 blackberry priv battery at CES 2018 which kicks off on 9th January 2018. Interestingly, both the Galaxy S9 and S9+ are expected to sport the same 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch display size which means that the overall size of the devices will come down compared to the Galaxy S8 and S8+.

Besides, we are also likely to see Samsung go like an Apple with some major differences in the regular and plus variant. As per the rumours, the Galaxy S9 will come with 4GB RAM while the Galaxy S9+ will come with 6GB RAM. Further, the company is also likely to deploy the dual camera setup only on the Galaxy S9+, which is kind of sad as the smaller Galaxy S9 would make up for a perfect one-hand usage device.

Other internals is likely to be a Snapdragon 845 silicone or Samsung’s recently unveiled Exynos 9810 chipset both of which are built on 10nm process. Also, both the S9 and S9+ will come with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. It will be interesting to see if 3.5 mm headphone jack is something which Samsung still decides to praise in 2018. Let’s hope for the best. Till then, What do you think? Can Samsung pull off yet another winner with the upcoming Galaxy S9 and S9+? Let us know in the comment section below.

How much do you know about iPhone 2018?

2017-11-24 11:19:20 | Samsung Galaxy S8

Apple announced three iPhones in September 2017 in the form of the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and the iPhone X. The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus followed the traditional iPhone design, while the iPhone X shook things up a little.

What does that mean for next year's iPhones though? Will we see an iPhone 9 and 9 Plus, as well as a successor to the iPhone X? Or will the standard iPhone die and the iPhone X design take over for all 2018 models?

Apple iPhone 2018: What's the story so far?

The rumour mill for next year's iPhones has already started spinning and will continue to until the new devices launch. Some of the speculation thrown out will be utter garbage, while some will no doubt be on the money. Here we are rounding all the rumours of the next iphone 5s disassembly but remember nothing is confirmed.

Apple iPhone 2018: Release date

We might see a successor to the iPhone SE, the smaller iPhone, in March 2018, but we won't see the iPhone 9 or a successor to the iPhone X until September 2018.

Traditionally, Apple has held its September events within the first couple of weeks of the month and usually on a Tuesday, with pre-orders for the devices they announce starting on the Friday of the same week. The iPhone X was an exception to that pattern, with pre-orders not starting for six weeks after.

It will be a good few months before any event rumours appear though, with nothing likely to surface until August 2018 at the earliest. If we had to place our bets now, we'd guess around 11 September 2018, give or take a week, would be a good time to pencil in the diary if you want to watch Tim Cook and his buddies on stage.

Apple iPhone 2018: Name

What will Apple call its iPhone 2018 models? Well, isn't that the million dollar question? The answer to which only a very select few in the Cupertino company probably know.

We might see an iPhone 9 and iPhone 9 Plus, or we might see Apple skip "9" altogether. There has been a prediction that we will see a larger iPhone X appear with a 6.5-inch OLED display, alongside another 5.8-inch OLED model and a separate 6.1-inch device with an LCD display.

Perhaps this will mean that the new iPhones will predominantly continue with the "X" name, resulting in the iPhone XI or iPhone X2 and iPhone X Plus for the OLED models, with the standard iPhone 9 naming reserved for the LCD model. As we said though, it's anyone's guess at the moment.

Apple iPhone 2018: Design

Apple made some big design changes to the iPhone with the iPhone X. It moved away from what has defined the iPhone for the last decade by removing the TouchID home button on the front and replacing it with a notch at the top of the display, housing a new technology called FaceID.

The iPhone X isn't to everyone's taste though, and many don't like change, which is probably one of the reasons why the company chose to release the more traditional iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus models alongside it. Don't count on the same strategy for next year though.

By September 2018, those who weren't initially sold on the iPhone X's design will have had 12 months to get used to it and given Tim Cook said the iPhone X lays the foundations for the next 10 years of the iPhone, we wouldn't be surprised to see all the 2018 models feature the new design.

Ming Chi-Kuo, the KGI Securities analyst who loves to share his Apple predictions, believes there will be two OLED iPhone models next year, both of which will retain the stainless steel frame but offer improvements for cellular and Wi-Fi transmissions. He also claims there will be a third model that will have an LCD display, as we mentioned briefly above, suggesting this will be a cheaper option.

Kuo does predict all three models will lose TouchID in favour of FaceID however, which makes sense. We aren't convinced about Apple retaining stainless steel though. In fact, while ditching the old design entirely is a perfectly plausible move, the £1000 starting price of the iPhone X is steep and a switch to aluminium would presumably help reduce this so for now, we're placing our bets on at least one aluminium frame, if not all.

Apple iPhone 2018: Display

Apple made a move to OLED with the iPhone X so it comes as no surprise that the company is predicted to continue to offer OLED options in 2018. As we mentioned above, it has been predicted that Apple will deliver two OLED iPhones next year, as well as one LCD iPhone.

According to Ming Chi-Kuo, there will be a 6.5-inch OLED model, a 5.8-inch OLED model and a 6.1-inch LCD model. The analyst shared an infographic that suggests the 6.1-inch LCD model will offer a footprint between the current iPhone 8 and ipad mini 2 screen replacement despite the larger screen, which would be possible should it adopt the 18:9 aspect ratio the iPhone X offers.

Kuo also predicted the 6.5-inch model would offer a pixel density of between 480 and 500ppi, the 5.8-inch will offer 458ppi, which is the same as the current iPhone X, and the 6.1-inch model would have between 320 and 330 pixels per inch. If this is the case, none of the 2018 models will offer a Quad HD resolution like the likes of Samsung's Galaxy S8 or LG's V30.

It's all predictions and guesswork for now though so if you're all about the pixels, don't be too disheartened just yet. Aside from pixels and size, we'd expect to see a continuation of 3D Touch on all models, the P3 wide colour gamut and Apple's True Tone technology on some, if not all 2018 models.

OnePlus 5T passes the torture test with flying colours

2017-11-23 11:19:46 | Samsung Galaxy S8

OnePlus beliefs in the philosophy of Never Settle and the same can be said for its latest flagship, the OnePlus 5T as it has passed the YouTuber JerryRigEverything’s test. Jerry is popular for its torture test including the scratch, burn, teardown and bent tests, which he performs on the flagship wholesale Samsung Galaxy S4 LCD screen .

OnePlus 5T passes the torture test with flying colours

Jerry has recently posted a video on its YouTube channel of OnePlus 5T torture test. The five-minute long video started with the display scratch test, where the smartphone achieved deep marks at level 7 on the Mohs scale out of level 10, due to its Gorilla Glass protection.

Further, for peeling the paint out from the back of the smartphone including the fingerprint sensor, the device was able to pass the scratch test. Moving forward, the metal frame of the OnePlus 5T help it surviving the bend test. However, the volume rockers and power button on the right were not up to expectation and were marked easily.

In burn test, the YouTuber torched the OnePlus 5T display using a lighter, under which the display survived for 20 seconds and end up with a white spot at the centre.

According to Jerry, OnePlus 5T is an incredibly full-featured and useful phone with a price point low enough to benefit customers, other than the lack of water resistance and the lack of wireless charging.

Meanwhile, OnePlus is planning to phase out the OnePlus 5 Samsung Galaxy S4 display in order to make the way for the latest flagship device. As both the smartphones come with same price tag of Rs 32,999 for the 6GB RAM variant and Rs 37,999 for the 8GB RAM variant.

This piece of information comes from the General Manager of OnePlus India, Vikas Aggarwal. He said that the last batch of the OnePlus 3T was sold out during Diwali and now the product will be discontinued. Thus, the same is the case with the OnePlus 5, which is expected to sell out in some time, after which there will be one product in the market from the company, the OnePlus 5T.
