NHK has been broadcasting the street corner piano program since 2019.
Currently, more than 600 street pianos are installed all over Japan.
Recently, the removal of a street piano in Kakogawa City was widely reported, including by overseas media.
City officials decided to remove a piano inside the railway station ,after they concluded too many people were displaying poor manners.
Because strict guidelines were set for the piano's use In Kakogawa.
For example, disinfect hands,perform within 10 minutes,not sing.
While reading this news, I wonder if this decision is good.
The street piano originally started in England in the early 2000s.
It’s said people used music and piano as an opportunity for strangers to get to know each other.
However many Japanese street pianos may be without communication.
There are spectators, there is no communication between spectators and performers.
Too many regulations will make street pianos meaningless.
Something is strange with Japanese street pianos.
