伊右衛門本のコメント in ENGLISH

知財コミュニケーターの新井信昭です。
米国バージニア州の York さんから『 伊右衛門本 』を読んだ感想を
いただきました。
ご本人の承諾を頂けたので、
紹介させていただきます。
敢えて原文で載せます。
私の下手な翻訳など入れないほうが

『 知財コミュニケーション 』 がとても必要なことにも
共感していただきました。
ちなみに
47ページの表は、各年ごとの月別特許出願数を示したもので、
毎年決まって３月に skyrocketing に増加していることを示したものです。
私たちは、もっと戦略的な特許出願をしなければなりません。
「取りあえず出しておこう」出願、
「予算消化のために出してしまえ」出願は、
技術流出の温床以外のなにものでもありません。

I just finished reading your book—it is excellent and congratulations on a very useful and insightful discussion of IP strategy.
I think you have uncovered an uncomfortable truth about patent portfolios in Japan
and the dangers of almost machine-like filing of applications—especially only domestic applications.
The chart presented at page 47 about the surge in filings in March of each year summed up the problem very well.
I have often wondered why companies apply sophisticated financial/scenario analysis to new business opportunities
to determine if the Return on Investment justifies the cost/risk—yet no such analysis is applied to a new patent application.
I have highlighted some great lines in my copy of your book, “特許出願は「アイデアを盗んでください」と、全世界に宣言する。。。”,
"ここから見えてくることは、日本で出願された１００件中７０件が外国ではパクリ放題、ということです。”
”アイデアに国境はないが、特許には国境がある。” and many more.
I agree wholeheartedly with the theme of your book and the point made in your あとがき that there is great need for improved IP communication—especially within companies.
Too often IP Departments seem to work in isolation from other company functions—especially marketing, finance, and accounting.
There is much work to do.
